I will say it again, the Flyers gave up on Bob way to quickly. Guy was legit last year and you gave him 2 playoff games and yanked him, then tore up the franchise to bring in an overpaid goalie, when you have a cheap option on the bench.

You gave up Richards and Carter when you could have either kept them, or turned them into something else and not have to worry about the cap space.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

    "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

I don't mind giving up Richards and Carter, it got us some really good players in return. But we could of got a way better defenseman than Lilja if we didn't panic and give Bryz 51 mil. We could of had Ian White on the team right now and someone like Josh Harding, Brian Elliott or Ray Emery backing up Bob and would of had a good amount of cap space. Snider and Holmgren really jumped off the deep end after the Bruins series last year without realizing they had a future franchise goalie who is only 23 years old on the roster.

Ian white lost the game for the wings last night plain and simple.

I still think the guy is severly over rated.

The Flyers absolutely trade raped the Blue Jackets in the Carter trade getting Voracek and Couturier. Simmonds is having a decent season and Schenn has been solid since he got over all of his injuries. Plus Matt Read has replaced pretty much all of Richards scoring this season so those were both pretty damn good trades.

You guys don't need to rehash the Richards/Carter shit, I was saying "you could have kept them". They were moved not because they were bad players but because the Flyers needed the cap room for their superstar goalie. I was just showing they didn't need to go to those lengths because the back up goalie, and goalie that got the team to the playoffs last season has better numbers this year.

Bob's is just another quality goalie sitting behind a starter he will never get a chance with. NHL is just full of them right now.

Bruins fans still mad about the canuck game and are calling the marchand bs a clean hipcheck.

Fair enough but it wasn't JUST a cash dump, the Flyers needed to start fresh to a certain extent and bring a new culture to the team which they have.

Yeah that Marchand hit is nowhere near clean, completely turned away from the puck to hit Salo.

I don't think they were moved for either of those reasons. The front office wanted this team to go into a different direction after losing in the playoffs last year. Richards and Carter were seen as big party guys and the team wanted to move away from that. The goalie situation was a whole separate issue. If the Flyers wanted to just clear cap for Bryz they could of kept at least one of Richards or Carter.

Judging by the capgeek data there is no chance they could of kept carter and richards to go with their complete change around.

The thing I would worry about with Philly is if the cap starts going back on itself and not expanding if the cba starts to go wild in the summer. Holmgren really has some bad contracts on his hands and he'll have to deal with those problems if they arise.

The front office really does scare me and I still question to this day their moves. We really won't find out if they all pay off till much later on but its tough to say.

                            Two things.

Dustin Penner hurt his back while eating pancakes.

                            Marchand got 5 games.

They couldn't of kept both, but they could of kept one. The team wouldn't of looked like it does now obviously, but they didn't need to move both to get Bryz. They were two separate decisions.

Also Holmgren has been pretty terrible with contracts and some of the moves he has made. Like you said, it just seems like he expects the cap number to increase every season, he is going to be fucked if that doesn't happen.

The 2008 draft was rediculous for defensemen:

                                Drew Doughty (2nd overall)
                                Zach Bogosian (3rd overall)
                                Alex Pietrangelo (4th overall)
                                Luke Schenn (5th overall)
                                Tyler Myers (12th overall)
                                Erik Karlsson (15th overall)
                                Jake Gardiner (17th overall)
                                Luca Sbisa (19th overall)
                                Michael Del Zotto (20th overall)
                                John Carlson (27th overall)
                                Travis Hamonic (53rd overall)
                                Jason Demers (186th overall)
