It's ok, Mike Brown is going to turn things around for them.

All non playoff teams eligible for the #1 pick starting with this season's draft lottery. Very interesting change.

Can't wait for Edmonton to finish 24th in the league and win the lottery anyways.

Back in 2007 the Flyers finished last in the league in points (by a good margin if I recall) and lost the lottery to the Blackhawks and ended up with JVR instead of Kane...awesome.

And we all know how that turned out!

Anyways, it's a real shocking coincidence that the Leafs didn't play well at all tonight until the Colton Orr line was banished to the bench for the entire 3rd period. Don Cherry must be terribly confused about why grit and intimidation couldn't stop the 4th line from posting a -2 in about 3 minutes of ice time.

I hate this change. Frankly, I hate draft lotteries where one team is clearly the worst team in the league. I'm ok with draft lotteries where the difference isn't great, but when last year's Charlotte Bobcats don't get the #1 pick, there's something wrong with draft lotteries.

I think I like it. To be honest, it's annoying seeing the top talents get stuck on Columbus and Edmonton and New York every year and for them to do nothing with it. I quite like the theory that a team which competes hard and is just on the playoff bubble looking upwards can come back a year later with a superstar. To be honest, the weighting of the lottery still makes it very unlikely that the #1 pick will go to a team much higher up the standings than 29th anyway.

Last year's NBA draft lottery sealed my opinion on draft lotteries. No way Charlotte should be anything but #1.

So you're pro tanking? Why reward teams who make a concerted effort to be awful?

You think the Bobcats were tanking on purpose?

They sure as hell weren't trying to improve their roster at all.

It's not like tanking in the NBA is uncommon. Eliminating the lottery would make things hideously grotesque, especially in seasons proceeding the draft years of generational prospects like LeBron or Connor McDavid. There are already enough shitty teams in the NBA and NHL with the draft lottery. There shouldn't be additional incentive to field a shit team.

Considering Edmonton is still 14th in the West, I didn't think tanking did much for them. Hockey players take longer to develop into stars then basketball players. I'd also like to point out that Connor McDavid is more like John Tavares, who is a star player, but I wouldn't compare him to LeBron. LeBron came in and made an impact. One hockey player can't do that right away. Even Crosby couldn't. So even when you look at a team like Edmonton who has all these 1st overall picks, they still are not doing anything good with them. AND coming in the next few seasons, all of these guys are going to want big deals. Edmonton already gave Eberle and Hall $6 million deals. You don't think Hopkins, Schultz and Yakupov will want the same? That will be 5 players signed to around $30 million. And now you have to round the team with depth guys for $34 million, and you need a starting goalie, and an entire defence.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                              "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.
