Another very good and highly entertaining Inspire show. But there is one major takeaway from the show that I have to talk about. Inspire was the Ricky Starks show tonight. Another A+ promo, and two very good matches. I'm completely sold on this guy and willing to make bold predictions on his future.

After watching his work on four different shows in three different companies, interviewing him for the podcast, and chatting with him a bit tonight, it's obvious he loves his puro tapes, but he works in the stuff he likes in subtle way, unlike some dudes who get criticized (rightly) for just "copying shit they see in Japan".

For example, im sure everybody is familiar with that spot Tozawa does, where he alternates chops & punches on a dude in the corner, then fakes the last punch, only to crack the guy in the mouth anyway? Well, Starks worked in that spot, only he set it up with the Undertakers punches to the ribs instead of the Tozawa chop/punch sequence.

He also did a KENTA rush, which I guess we can now call the CM Punk rush:

But when Starks used it, he didn't finish it with the high kick. Again, he found something he liked, but modified it enough to were he isn't just ripping it off.

Starks offense is good, but I like other aspects of his work even better. You know how you go to an indie show, even a high level indie show, and there are always one or two guys who just stand out over the others in the charisma department? That's this guy. Even on a show with people like Bolt Brady, Mike Dell, etc, Starks is on another level (and believe me, Bolt is headed for great things and Dell is a pro's pro). On the first show, he was right there with Chuck Taylor and slightly below ACH.

His selling is also already at a major league level, at least in terms of facials. I haven't seen him in a situation where he has had to sell a body part yet, but his overall big picture selling is really, really good.

There is a reason I chose this guy for the podcast when Biss basically offered up the entire roster. He has already relocated and is going to be booked in some fresh places in the coming months. Mark my words: You will all know who Ricky Starks is by the end of 2014.

-During the opening segment of the show, Jordan Jensen, who is a heel doing an gimmick where he isn't part of the roster, was being told he was being given an opponent to defeat to earn a roster spot. They were teasing that there was no way he could beat this man, and somebody yelled out "Send out the Boogyman guy!", which I thought was funny and made everybody laugh.

-Great Depression was match #2. When his music hit, the place popped, so it made an impression on the first show. He faced a larger man this time, so the squash wasn't as visually impressive. Unfortunately the finish was fucked up. He was screaming & grunting and had his opponent in some sort of face lock/eye rake while the ref was giving the five count. The ref called for the bell. The ring announcer, who is Brandon Stroud from With Leather and who does a really good job, announced Thomas Shire the winner by DQ. To be fair, this is how it looked to me, too. They even hit Shire's music. There was obvious confusion, and the ref was talking to Stroud. He then announced that the ref was reversing the decision into a ref stoppage, winner Great Depression. I asked Biss what happened, and he said Stroud goofed, and the sound guy goes off of what the ring announcer says, so that's why the wrong music played. People booed the shit out of this, but either way the goal is to make GD look like a monster and from that aspect it worked.

Its good to see my dark horse candidate to win BOLA actually won it.

                      I'm the man.

Also, good to read that Gargano broke out in PWG this past weekend.

Overall, reading BOLA was very good only adding to the AUGUST 2013 IZ DA BES MUMF EVA!

                        Larry,

Do you know if anyone fully reviewed or gave them match ratings yet? I'm looking to put the finishing touches on the August 2013/What is the best month ever piece and I don't want to totally leave BOLA out.

No one will do match ratings until the DVD comes out. The only reviews up are the people that went to the show and they really don't go into a ton of detail, they just go to enjoy the show.

I've read that Night 2 was the better night.

Gargano v. Steen (QF), Kyle O'Reilly v. ACH (QF), and Elgin v. Gargano (SF) all were noted as being "awesome". I won't know until I get the shows in a month.

btw - should have a TEN review up today. Download just came out today.

Awesome I look forward to seeing it.

I'm wondering if I should just go ahead with the article and mention that BOLA happened but we don't have star ratings yet. I want to strike while the iron of August is still hot.

I'll be watching SUWAMA vs Go Shiozaki from the 25th today. Supposedly excellent & better than the 2/3 falls.
