He better.
He looked terrible, not doing much of anything last night. He was essentially a sitting duck for Edgar, who is still one of the top fighters in the world. Thankfully, Penn seemed to realize he should not have come back this time and aside from being competitive, there's no reason for him to try to return to MMA down the road.
It would be cool if the UFC could expand their small HOF deal (Pat Miletich went in this weekend) to an event and they could honor BJ next year.
16-10-2 MMA
UFC lightweight champion (the division came back and was put on the map due to Penn)
UFC welterweight champion
Only one of two fighters (Randy Couture) to win titles in two different UFC weight classes
Recognized as the best lightweight ever
The first American (and non-Brazilian) to win the black belt division of the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2000
Earned his BJJ black belt at 21-years-old from Andre Pederneiras
Has wins over Caol Uno, Matt Serra, Takanori Gomi, Matt Hughes, Renzo Gracie, Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, and Diego Sanchez among others
Look at the list of fighters he lost to over his career: Jens, Lyoto Machida, GSP, Hughes, Frankie Edgar, Diaz, Rory MacDonald
Before last night, Penn was only finished by GSP (corner stoppage) and Hughes, both at welterweight. In Japan, not even a heavyweight Lyoto Machida could finish a 190-pound BJ.
