Dwight probably deserves it in all reality. But he also deserved a stick shoved up his rectal cavity and he's not getting that so this evens it out.

Chandler along with Woodson and Shumpert should be given credit for the Knicks paying more attention on defense; however, as much as he annoyed all of us Dwight Howard was the DPOY....Ibaka was good as well, but he isn't good enough of a rebounder.

Without looking at stats, with homer cap secure...Tyson Chandler has been as advertised AND THEN SOME. Single handedly brought a defensive attitude to the team (as ralaw said, sparked even more by Woodson and then the attitude of Shumpert) that had been lacking for far too long.

I've always felt some perimeter guys deserve more recognition for this award as opposed to the guy who gets the most blocks that end up in the 6th row. With that being said, I'm sure Howard will win it but I voted LeBron just because I'd love to see them get ballsy and give it to a perimeter guy.

I voted Lebron because of his ability to guard any position on the floor. I've seen him guard Rajon Rondo at times, and Dwight Howard at other times. That's gotta be awesome to know you can match him up with any member of the other team and he will do great job on defense.

You're kidding right? His ability to protect the rim is what makes him a candidate. IF he isn't blocking the shot, his presense alone makes people adjust and take lower percentage shots. He also is a great defensive rebounder, which is often an overlooked defensive stat.

I asked if you were kidding, because you oversimplified and used him blocking shots out of bounds as a way to discredit his defensive ability.

I'm not going to compare what a post defender does versus what a perimeter defender does, because their roles and responsibilities are entirely different. I wouldn't say either is more valuable than the other. James may be a more versatile defender, but that doesn't mean he's a better defender. I’d be cool with either one of them winning the award.

It is extremely difficult for big men to get off vs the Thunder. This has been crucial to them all season. Its not only Ibaka, its partly due to Kendrick Perkins aswell. But im shocked Ibaka got no love here at all. Because of OKC's style of play they gave up a lot of PPG this year, but when they slow the game down and rely on their defense in the paint they make it very difficult for not only opposing big men but for guards to penetrate into the paint aswell. Ibaka's block numbers are insane, his man to man defense has been great. And while Chandler has had a great year and helped changed the philosophy in New York, and is also deserving, I think Ibaka is just as deserving as him.

I also wouldnt hate on them giving this to LeBron, as hes easily the best perimeter defender in the league and when he puts his mind to it its nearly impossible to get off on him without having to make a tough shot. But the NBA has gone away from giving this award to wing men..

Chandler received 311 points, including 45 first-place votes, from a panel of 121 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka finished second with 294 points and Orlando's Dwight Howard, who had won the award each of the previous three seasons, finished third with 186 points.
