Arkansas-Pine Bluff OL Terron Armstead ran an unofficial 4.65 during his first forty at the Combine.

Armstead was one of the best players at the East-West Shrine game and continued that effort with a call up during Senior Bowl week. He's played tackle during his career, but is so fluid and athletic in space that he could see some guard snaps. A second-round pick could be in his future.

In his Combine media interview, LSU DE Sam Montgomery admitted to betting in college and taking games -- not plays -- games off when the Tigers faced lesser opponents.

Montgomery's agent should have advised him before the Combine that saying things like this is not smart. At all. "Some weeks when we didn’t have to play the harder teams, there were some times when effort was not needed," Montgomery said. "But when we had the big boys coming in, the ‘Bamas or the South Carolinas, I grabbed close to those guys and went all out." Montgomery detailed "hundreds of dollars" in bets with teammate Barkevious Mingo, including one for $5,000 on which LSU defensive end will be drafted higher. We'd wager -- heavily -- that it won't be Montgomery. Draft insider Tony Pauline reported late Saturday that LSU's coaching staff has been "slamming" Montgomery to NFL teams.

Speed at the NFL combine doesn't immediately boost draft position, but at least it will guarantee the fastest player at the event a shoe contract.

Adidas has had billboards in Indianapolis, the site of the event, promising a shoe deal to the player that ran the fastest time. On Saturday, the shoe company put an ad on a flap on the cover of the Indianapolis Star promoting the marketing idea.

"Run the fastest 40, and get a contract offer," the ad said.

The company is using the ads to promote its lightweight adizero 5-star prime cleats, which weigh 5.3 oz. Players can run in adidas shoes should they choose, but a competitor, Under Armour, has the marketing rights to the combine. Players who sign with adidas can not wear the company's logos on the playing field because adidas doesn't have a marketing deal with the NFL, unlike Nike and Under Armour.

Adidas spokesman Michael Ehrlich said that the company will come through with an offer on a contract, but there is no minimum.

Players that are favorites to run the fastest time include Tennessee's Cordarrelle Patterson, University of North Carolina's Giovani Bernard and Marquise Goodwin of Texas.

What is likely is at some point that speedster will play with the Oakland Raiders. The fastest player at the NFL in four of the last six years has signed with the silver and black.

DeMarcus Van Dyke (2011), Jacoby Ford (2010) and Darrius Heyward-Bey (2009) were drafted by the team, while Yamon Figurs (2007) signed with the team in 2010.

Adidas' most high profile endorser, Washington Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III, ran the fastest time for a quarterback at last year's event.

Homer scouting report but FSU's Rodney Smith looked good at the combine today. 4.44 unofficial time and 4.51 official. He's 6'6 and can be that redzone threat. Not as physical as I would like but would be a good mid rder. Caught almost every ball today

Utah DT Star Lotulelei will not work out at the Combine after his medical evaluation revealed a heart condition.

Per ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Lotulelei's left ventricle is pumping at 44 percent efficiency, with the normal range being 55-70 percent. He will undergo further testing in Utah. It's a massive blow for a potential top-five pick. Lotulelei was a workhorse for the Utes, but this will raise questions about his durability, even if the issues prove minor. For now, Lotulelei's rep is claiming his client will participate in every drill at Utah's March 20 Pro Day.

There aren't many jumbo wide receivers in this class, and he's one that looks the part, despite being marginally productive.

He'll never be more than a #4 WR, but teams will look at this huge dude with huge hands and try and get him the ball in the red zone. The fact that he runs a 4.5 helps him a ton.

EJ Manuel

Manuel has had a huge combine so far. He came in at a true 6'5, and a very solid 237 pounds. Manuel has 35" arms, which is very long (though this isn't necessarily good for a QB), and 10 3/8" hands (definitely good). He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds, had a vertical jump of 34" (former hoops player) and a broad jump of 118". In addition, he had 7.08-seconds in the 3-cone drill and a 4.21 in the 20-yard shuttle. Manuel has a shot to be a first round pick thanks to this combine, as all of these numbers were among the best for his position.

It really does mean nothing. At most your OL moves what, 5 yards during a play

What was Jonathan Ogden or Orlando Pace or Jeff Saturday or Bruce Matthew's 40 time?

The answer is nobody cares.

Personally I dont think they matter much for any position, unless a CB or WR comes in very very slow.

Its supposed to show what a great athlete he is. But who cares if he cant block?
