He's Finally Here
June 18, 2011 - Minneapolis, MN
Ricky Rubio was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft. The young point guard was 18 at the time of being drafted, and he was very unsure of his future. David Kahn was entering his first year with the Timberwolves organization, and he impressed the fans by drafting Rubio. First to aquire the fifth overall pick, Kahn made a trade highlighting Randy Foye and Mike Miller for the fifth pick. Rubio was playing with DKJ Joventut at the time in Europe. He would have had to pay $5.5 million out of his own pocket, because NBA rules only allow teams to pay up to $500,000. Rubio decided it was best for him to wait and come over two years later, where the buyout was much smaller at $1.4 million. However, Rubio considered staying in Barcelona because of the potential buyout. But that isn't the case, he will be coming over and playing in a Minnesota Timberwolves uniform next season.

Minnesota would not allow anybody to wear the number nine since they drafted Rubio. When Martell Webster was traded to the Wolves last offseason, he wanted to wear number 9, however the front office would not allow it. Kahn and coach Kurt Rambis had to make several trips to Spain to visit Rubio and talk him into coming to Minnesota for this upcoming season. There have been many people hating on Rubio and the Timberwolves for the pick, Minnesota will look to prove all the doubters wrong with Ricky. Rubio compared himself to Steve Nash after he was drafted in 2009, but now people are comparing him to the great legend Pete Maravich. Rubio is excited to come over "I am going because I feel prepared, I want to play against the best players in the world." Rubio said. He also had another comment, "It will mean a change of mentality, perhaps we won't be fighting for the title, but we will have other goals. I am willing to do whatever the team needs to win as many games as possible." Without further to do, welcome to the NBA Ricky.

Flynn Rumors Going Around
June 19, 2011 - Minneapolis, MN
Jonny Flynn was selected sixth overall in the 2009 draft, one pick behind Rubio. Many people see Flynn as a filler until Rubio got here, which may have been Kahn's plan. However, many people thought the two would play with each other on the court, and backing each other up. But two years later, it was Flynn who led the Wolves to only 33 wins in 2 seasons. Flynn has suffered several injuries throughout his young NBA career. However, he still has a lot of potential, he's only 22 and has many years ahaed of him on the hardcourt. Flynn is expected to be traded this offseason because of Rubio's arrival, which may disappoint Wolves fans, but they are accepting of that fact. In his first two seasons, Flynn has averaged 10 points, 4 assists per game in 25 minutes each game. He is ridiculously athletic and can make great plays driving to the basket, Jonny just doesn't fit into Kurt Rambis' system.

Flynn is from Niagara Falls, New York and played his college basketball at Syracuse University. That's one reason why the New York Knicks would like to aquire him. During the 2010-2011 season, the Knicks called Kahn asking for Flynn in a deal that included Anthony Randolph. However, that didn't happen, and New York is still interested. Portland is also a team that could be looking to add Flynn. The Blazers are looking to add a point guard to take over for veteran Andre Miller, whom they're trying to trade. Los Angeles could be a likely destination for Flynn, both the Clippers and Lakers appear interseted. The Clippers have an aging Mo Williams and the Lakers have Derek Fisher and Steve Blake. Minnesota is receiving a lot of calls about Jonny Flynn's services trying to land him, and it's likely he will be moved around draft day, but before free agency.

A Look Into the Draft: Derrick Williams
June 21, 2011 - Minneapolis, MN
After all the workouts and evaluations the Timberwolves have done, we sit two days away from the draft. Derrick Williams is a forward from the University of Arizona, and can play either small forward or power forward. He's been known to tweet about catching alley-oops from Rubio, or playing alongside Wesley Johnson. It's likely that if Williams isn't taken first overall, he will land in Minnesota. He has a few strengths, his scoring is certainly a plus along with his athleticism. He needs to work on improving his defense and some scouts agree with his offense as well. Williams is rated the third overall prospect on the big board behind Kyrie Irving and Enes Kanter. Everyone expects Irving and Williams to go 1-2 though. David Kahn has come out and said that if they do select Williams, there will be no trades involving Anthony Randolph or Michael Beasley. Will Derrick Williams find his way to Minnesota? A Look Inside the Draft: Kyrie Irving
June 23, 2011 - New York, NY
Kyrie Irving is the consensus number one overall pick. Cleveland is expected to take him, but their situation could allow him to fall to second overall. They have two top four picks, including the first overall. Irving was off to a great start of his freshman season at Duke, however eleven games in he got injured. Irving has a great outside shot and has the [quickest first step in the draft. He is a decent rebounder, but Minnesota would rely on him to pass the ball, which is a good aspect of his game, but also something he needs to work on. There has been talk that if Minnesota were to select Irving with the second pick, he'd later be traded for a veteran shooting guard or center. The Deciding Factor: Enes Kanter
June 23, 2011 - New York, NY
Enes Kanter has been rated the top prospect in the draft, however he isn't necessarily going to be picked in the top three. If he slips past Cleveland and Minnesota, Utah is drafting Brandon Knight and Cleveland will pick him up fourth. Kanter brings a great offensive game where he can hit a mid-range jump shot, and work in the post. He is a decent defender in the paint, something he will have to work on. Kanter was supposed to play college basketball at Kentucky, however he will work on translating his European style of play into the NBA. Kanter played professional basketball in Turkey, his home country. Minnesota is in need of another center, they just have lost faith in Darko, and Kanter could be the answer. David Kahn has grown close to Kanter, but will he select him second overall?

Reflect Back On the Draft
June 24, 2011 - New York, NY
It was no surprise when Kyrie Irving was selected first overall, really the first three picks went as planned. That's where the draft took a turn and there were many surprising picks. Steven Jackson was moved to Milwaukee, Salmons ends up in Sacramento with Jimmer and Charlotte gets Kemba and Biyombo. Houston landed Flynn for Brad Miller and a future first, which is likely to be in 2012 where Minnesota does not have a first rounder. The Timberwolves were expected to trade Flynn with Rubio coming over, and got a veteran center and first rounder in return. David Kahn also added depth to the roster drafting Derrick Williams second overall, and trading for the rights to Malcolm Lee fourty-third overall. The Pac-10 combination from the draft gives the Wolves a lot of depth on the wings. Lee was a guard that the Timberwolves wanted with the twentieth pick, however they were able to pick him up with the mid-second rounder. Kahn's offseason is just beginning with this busy draft.

Malcolm Lee is a highly talented and athletic guard heading to Minnesota.

Kurt Rambis Fired
Minneapolis, MN - June 29, 2011
Kurt Rambis has been fired after two season as the Minnesota Timberwolves head coach. Rambis is a former assitant coach under Phil Jackson in Los Angeles where he won multiple championships. Rambis brought his triangle offense to Minnesota and guard Jonny Flynn. The system did not benefit Flynn at all, he also battled injuries, but he struggled to live up to expectations with the very tough system. Rambis was originally reported to be fired a week before the draft, but it was also noted that he wouldn't be officially fired until after the NBA draft. Rambis and Kahn met for six hours to talk about what Rambis would do if he were to remain in Minnesota. However, his persuading combined with his 32-132 record over his two years weren't very good credentials for Kahn to keep Rambis. Expect a new coaching staff along the Wolves bench next year.

Rubio Jerseys Popular; Few Are Selling
Minneapolis, MN - July 2, 2011
Minnesota fans have been awaiting the arrival of Ricky Rubio, and he is finally here. Now all they want is to buy a Ricky Rubio jersey and to go to the Target Center to watch him play, however there are two problems. The first problem is Rubio jerseys have made one shipping and won't be shipped again until the season is near it's beginning. The second problem is that the Minnesota Timberwolves may not be playing basketball this season. Along with the rest of the league, the NBA is currently locked out. The Collective Bargaining Agreement ran out on Thursday without a new deal between the players and owners. Expect the talks to continue, however not draw a conclusion until the beginning of the season, or even into the season.

The Dallas Mavericks may not be able to defend their championship this year.
