http://blog.seattlepi.com/football/...ding-block/?source=rss_teams_Seattle_SeahawksThe plot continues to thicken in the ongoing saga of Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry.
And according to a report from ProFootballTalk.com citing a league source, the Seahawks are shopping Curry, and at least three teams have inquired about the third-year linebacker.
It’s only natural that this kind of talk is surfacing, though it still seems unlikely that the Seahawks will find a trading partner for Curry. He’s under contract through 2012, though a restructure of that deal prior to the season has freed the Seahawks of any financial obligation to Curry beyond this season.
Still, he’s due to earn roughly $5 million this year, a figure that seems cumbersome for any potential suitor.
The PFT.com report did not identify which teams have shown interest in Curry.
Curry, the 4th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, was removed from the starting lineup last week and played a backup role in the Seahawks’ win over Arizona. He has underachieved during his brief NFL career, and his time in Seattle appears as if it may be running out.
Curry hasn’t done much to quell rumors that he may be on his way out. His interactions with fans on Twitter have been called into question, particularly those in which he has responded to fan speculation about where he may be headed if the Seahawks decide to trade him. And during an odd press conference on Wednesday, Curry expressed uncertainty about whether he’ll return next year, though said he’s “at peace” with his current situation.
Curry answered “no” when asked if he had been told by the Seahawks that they are seeking to trade him.
I’d still be surprised to see Curry traded this season, primarily for financial reasons. But it wouldn’t shock me. It’s obvious now that Curry isn’t in the team’s long-term plans, so if they feel they can salvage something in a trade instead of cutting him loose at season’s end, maybe that would be the preferred route.
What happened?
