Somehow, Jim Leyland, despite his insistance on batting OBP black hole Austin Jackson leadoff (he's fast! he's a CF! he's black!), and refusal to bench Magglio Ordonez or Brandon Inge, finds himself in first place.

C'mon White Sox, the postseason deserves better than this.

yeah between jackson not showing any improvement and still striking out a ton, and Maggs being a blackhole in that lineup, the Tigers have stayed the course...they need some bats though.

What are the sox doing with their rotation, is it still 6 man?

Speaking of their rotation, who would have thought Philip Humbar would be their best starter this season? He is pitching lights out so far, showing no signs of slowing down.

They'll go back to six-man once Peavy comes back. It's more about keeping some of the guys in the rotation fresh, mainly Mark Buehrle who consistently wears out around August.

Humber has been awesome, he's finally relying on his awesome curveball and making it his primary pitch. He's also added a slider to his pitches which he never really had before.

The one red flag is he's striking out far less people then normal and his BABIP is a really, really low .220 so it's possible he's getting lucky, but he has a lot of guys taking really bad swings. So we'll see, but at least for THIS year I think he'll be fine.

I wondered the same thing when the Reds played them. Not one person in their lineup was hitting over .300 at that point yet they had the best record in baseball. Clearly just a fluke.

Sounds like the 2005 White Sox. I think at one point in the middle of the season they didn't have anyone over .250 or .260. Something absurd like that. Yet they had the MLB's best record.

The indians have had the same offense the phils have so far, but their shitty pitching staff is catching up to them. Our offense is worse than theirs, but our pitching is tops in the league. It was gonna happen soon, might as well be now, although Justin Masterson is their saving grace.

That whole division is worthless.

WTF have you been watching? Austin Jackson has been batting over.300 the last 30 games. Leyland has already said Magglio and Inge are going to have to earn their way back int the lineup. Hell he even benched Magglio the day after he returned. I know by the end of the year though Magglio will be back at .280 and be a lot bigger contributor than Casper Wells and Andy Dirks. The only thing I would love to see Leyland do is completely cut out Inge and have Don Kelly be the full time starter. Our lineup is not nearly as bad as it seems to be made out to be. Outside of Raburn I have confidence in every single "regular" starter to come up with a big hit.

If our pitching keeps it up though, scoring runs wont be that big of a deal. Right now our worst pitcher is Max Scherzer and hes 8-2. Our bullpen struggled at first but once we called up Furbush everything settled back into the norm. Al Aberquiq (sp?) may be the biggest surprise for our team. Dude is a K machine.
