A year after trading for Anquan Boldin and a week before he would hit free agency, the 49ers have signed the veteran wide receiver to remain in San Francisco. It's a two-year extension, according to CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, and via multiple reports, it's worth $12 million with $9 million guaranteed.
As often happens these days, Boldin broke the news himself.
Boldin, who made $6 million in 2013, was shipped to San Francisco last March in exchange for a sixth-round pick. He was coming off a Super Bowl victory with the Ravens, and played an important role in the 49ers' run to the NFC Championship game this January.

Last season, the 33-year-old caught 85 receptions for 1,179 yards and seven touchdowns. For some perspective of just how good he was, Boldin ranked third in the league in Football Outsiders' WR efficiency metric, behind only Demaryius Thomas and Jordy Nelson.
According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the two sides had been talking about a new deal for weeks, and the Mercury News' Tim Kawakami tweets that Boldin was given the choice between two and three years and opted for two.
This is good news for quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who is reportedly looking for $18 million a year.
