Fight Club is best appreciated by those of us who were getting ready to unleash ourselves on the world in the late 90s. before 9/11 , fight club described my generation perfectly. we had no direction, we had no "sputnik moment" , no berlin wall, nothing that defined our generation. we were listless, we wanted to grab the world by the ass but had noone to rally us and we were very, very pissed off.
its sort of like how you cant appreciate V for Vendetta unless you were intelligent enough to understand politics during the Bush era. Fight club is the GOAT for guys who knew exactly the stupidity and consumerism that Tyler Durden antithesized (which is, of course, relevent with any generation, but particularly I think with ours, or to put a finer point on it, with the people who hold the movie with such cult status)
