btw, rumor is that it's a 5 year deal for 25 million, with an option for 6 years. The contract will however be paid out over 10 years which adds a lot of flexibility for the Reds.

Ofcourse. I was just pointing out the obvious..Strasburg is a RHP, Chapman is a LHP.

LHP are far more important to a staff then a RHP.

Who's to say he's 21? Seems like all these Central/South American players have age issues.

Paid out over 10 years, seems like a textbook example of low risk/high reward to me. Put it in perspective, 2.5- 3 million per year roughly for a guy with that type of potential then think about all the money that is wasted by drafting a high school pitcher in 1st round who proceeds to either blow out their arm/be a bust. It's not that big of a risk because if a big league ballclub can't sacrifice 2.5-3 mill per/year for a kid that has potential through the ceiling then they shouldn't be in the business of playing baseball.

Right now they can't afford to spend all that much more anyway. They've actually been a pretty dependable ball club despite their limited revenue streams. They are stuck (right now) in a horrible stadium deal where they get terrible attendance. They aren't left with a whole lot of other options besides being the ultimate small market team.

Yeah Marlins have been since the expansion (93 right?? I think). They've produced some big names. Maybe once this economy turns around, the Rays and Marlins will see a boost. TB's recent success has really helped them. Hopefully the Marlins can continue to have a very solid farm system.

The new stadium will help out tremendously. They can sell some skyboxes, have it in a better location and just have a sense of "baseball" as opposed to baseball played in a football stadium.

Most places say at the end of his first MLB contract, assuming he's a halfway decent pitcher, he'll return to the free market and get bigger bucks.

For the Reds sake, I hope he is as advertised and becomes a good MLB pitcher sooner than later while they can use him.
