John Smoltz doesn't need to earn a starting role in spring training IMO, and I think he has too much pride to put himself in that position.

Only reason why I recommend doing this is because ATL is sitting on some money that they'll probably never use.

You obviously have a limited grasp of how the system works. If Atlanta is competing for NL East/Wildcard this summer, they'll need that extra pay roll money if they decide to trade for someone to help them out. A midseason addition>Smoltz.

Save the money, deal away the plethora of pitching prospects that you do have for a bat at the deadline and have the money to pay him so contracts are never an issue.

LOL at this guy forgetting that Smoltz was awful last year. The whole veteran's tour with Glavine and Smoltz was a bad bad decision the first time around. Dude got lit up in Atlanta, lit up in Boston, and had a decent 2 months in St. Louis.

Dude was tipping his pitches in Boston. Ya'll are crazy if you don't think Smoltz could be a solid #5 in the NL. If Brad Penny can succeed, Smoltz should have no problem.

Stop talking please. Brad Penny is 10 years younger, and 4 shoulder surgeries fresher. Not to mention has about 8-10 MPH on Smoltz these days.

I love John Smoltz for what he was for the Braves, a leader, a grinder, a FUCKING SOLDIER! (no Kellen) but he's garbo now and we already have 5 legit starters my brotha.

Braves already have 5 solid starters in Jurrjens, Hudson, Hanson, Lowe, and Kawakami. I don't think Smoltz would provide an upgrade over any one of them and I don't think there is any way that Smoltz would sign a deal with the Braves unless he was guaranteed a rotation spot. Braves are better off trying to sign another bat than adding a washed up pitcher.

Lowe and Kawakami were far from solid in '09. Only thing positive about Kawakami was his 2nd half performance and Jurrjens needs to lower his WHIP down considerably or else he's going to start getting tagged. Smoltz would be a great mentor to the younger pitchers (Hanson, Jurrjens) too so I don't think it's that bad of an idea.

True, they were far from solid, but that would make Smoltz gaseous, considering his ERA with Atlanta was nearly double Lowe's or KK's. Your idea is horrible, just STFU about it already.

I have to agree. I think Smoltz needs to hang it up. I could see him being a relief pitcher, but Im sure he doesn't want that
