The New York Jets can at least call themselves champions in one category: ticket prices.

The Jets have the highest average, non-premium ticket price in the league at $117.94, according to Team Marketing Report's Fan Cost Index, which was released Thursday afternoon.

The Jets topped the Patriots, who have sold out every game since 1994, by 10 cents ($117.84).

In its annual survey, Team Marketing Report found that the average NFL ticket, purchased from a team, will cost $78.38 this season, up 2.5 percent from last year. The average cost to bring a family to the game and buy four regular tickets (not suite or club), two beers, four hot dogs, parking, program and two adult size hats is $443.93, up 3.9 percent from last year.

Besides the Jets and Patriots, three other teams have non-suite tickets that are selling for more than $100: New York Giants ($111.69), Chicago Bears ($110.91) and Dallas Cowboys ($110.20).

The teams with the cheapest average tickets: Cleveland Browns ($54.20), Buffalo Bills ($58.36) and Jacksonville Jaguars ($59.54).

TMR says 10 teams raised ticket prices by at least one percent this year, up from the nine that dared to make increases coming into the lockout last season. The largest increase? The Chicago Bears at 9.3 percent. The average cost of a beer at a game is up 15 cents from last year to $7.28, the study found..

I am one of the biggest NFL fans on the face of the planet with a reasonable amount of discretionary income to spend. That said, the NFL has priced me out of attending more than one game per year. I didn't go to any games last year and only went to a pre-season game the year before. With access to Sunday Ticket for free on my PS3 (through a friend with the Super Fan package that doesn't use mobile viewing) or even at the list of $300, I can watch every game on my big screen in my living room with no parking nightmares or concession/bathroom lines.

The NFL is going to wake up in a few years and see game day attendance falling off of a cliff.

There's no reason to plunk down the exorbitant amount of money to go to an NFL game with friends/family when you can just as easily make a day of it at home.

Going to an NFL stadium you have to deal with shitty parking, drunks, subpar views (unless you're able to get reallly good seats) and depending where you are, shitty weather, for a ton of money. Just as easily, from the comfort of your own place, with a nice TV set, access to every game, all the food and drinks you want, a cleaner bathroom with no line for a fraction of the cost.

Besides, the TV presentation (other than the constant commercials) is outstanding.

Unless you're an absolute junkie for being among tens of thousands of fans (or wealthy, more power to you), is there really a tough decision to make?

True that. I found myself only watching the Packers games live last year and the vast majority of the remaining non prime-time NFL viewing was on the Redzone channel.
