Time Warner has confirmed plans to release the next game in the Batman: Arkham series in 2013.

Speaking during the firm's fiscal year 2012 earnings call last week, as transcribed by Seeking Alpha, chief financial officer John Martin said: "We also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise.”

Time Warner's current fiscal year ends on December 31, 2013. We’ve sought further comment from Warner Bros. Interactive on its plans for the Batman: Arkham series this year.

It has been rumoured that the follow-up to 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Batman: Arkham City will be a “highly stylized” prequel revolving around Batman's first meeting with the Joker. Variety reported last year that it would be based on the Silver Age of DC comic books from the 1950s, when Batman joined forces with the likes of Superman to found the Justice League of America.

VG247 said today it has been told by unnamed sources that Arkham Asylum and City creator Rocksteady Studios is not developing the next game in the series.

TL;DR? - Time Warner wants to put out a new Batman game in the Arkham series (the others being Asylum and City) but they may not ask Rocksteady Studios to help make it this go around.

The other part of the story is... it's scheduled to come out this year.

I wasn't excited about the first game. I had never heard of Rocksteady and historically Batman games have been shit. It wasn't until just before AA came out and all the glowing previews started to hit that I became excited.

I'm not saying that this game is going to be good but I'm also not just going to write it off like you apparently are.

I do get the sentiment though. Batman hasn't been good since the NES, and that Batman game wasn't even a Batman game. So yeah, I'm back to being nervous if the developer changes. It's not like Batman as a franchise was always this heavy hitter, then all of the sudden Rocksteady takes the reigns out of nowhere. It's not really a fair comparison.

Will I wait and see what I see? Yes. Will Swarley? Yes (I'm guessing). Do I have a shitload more doubts about the quality of it under a new developer, dropped almost out of nowhere to come out this year? Yes. I don't think that's a crazy reaction.

Also, I'm guessing you're referring to the Batman game from Sunsoft on the NES? If so, I loved that game. I would love to see it release on the Virtual Console but I know it never will because of the license issues.
