Giants in the Super Bowl
This is an awkward deal since Paul Daley and Ben Saunders are not in the tournament and some people are theorizing they're being held off until the move to Spike. I don't see how that makes sense unless Bjorn changes his mind about needing tourney's to get title shots.
This tournament begins at Bellator 76 on September 28.
Lyman Good (12-2) vs. Jim Wallhead (23-6)
Good is the former first ever Bellator 170-pound champion, fighting out of NYC. After falling short to Rick Hawn in the season 4 semi's, he returned in April to knock out LeVon Maynard in just 13 seconds. It was the first time he finished a fight since he knocked out Omar de la Cruz to become champion in 2009. Jim Wallhead is a black belt in Judo out of England and will return to welterweight after taking two fights at middleweight in BAMMA. He beat Frank Trigg and Joey Villasenor in those fights, btw. He, too, lost to Rick Hawn in the season 4 tournament.
Andrey Koreshkov (10-0) vs. Jordan Smith (17-3-1)
Koreshkov is the #1 ranked welterweight prospect in the world by BloodyElbow, he trains under Alexander Shlemenko and spent a few months last year in the U.S. to train with B.J. Penn. The biggest name he's beaten is Kyacey Uscola, before making his Bellator debut in March where he has since finished both opponents. He's never been out of the second round. Smith is a Philippine American whose biggest win came last year with a win over Karo Parisyan. He was knocked out in his last fight, the season 6 Bellator quarterfinals, by David Rickels.
Tim Welch (9-3) vs. Michail Tsarev (23-2)
Welch, out of Montana, has been fighting professionally since he was 19 in 2009. He has finished his last three opponents and is making his Bellator debut. The Russian Tsarev has also fought as a pro since he was 19, in 2005. His last 10 fights have been victories, all finishes. Ironically, his last win was against Kyacey Uscola.
Marius Zaromskis (18-6-0-1) vs. Nordine Taleb (8-1)
The former DREAM champion is on a four-fight win streak including his win last month against Waachiim Spiritwolf. This will be his first tournament since DREAm in 2009 when he defeated Seichi Ikemoto in the first round and then in the same night, Mach Sakurai and Jason High to become champion. Taleb is a Canadian out of Montreal, training at Tristar. He is on a seven-fight win streak and that includes a knockout of PETE DRAGO SELL last year. He made his Bellator debut in April and has reeled off a pair of wins on the prelims.
