David Wright is the choice for me right now, but if Machado has started filling out his frame and some of his doubles are now home runs, he will be at the top next year. Machado also has to improve his patience and not hack at everything.

Beltre really declined in the field last year. Tough for me to vote for him with that decline. I will be interested in seeing this year if that was an aberration or not.

He was clearly hurt basically the entire 2nd half last year, but the guy still played everyday. Longo and Wright have missed a lot of time the last few years deal with injuries as well. Beltre is still an elite defender and I'm sure he will put up somewhere near his usual defensive numbers. The guy had no legs and he basically refused to go on the DL, or DH, I can't knock him too much for that because the Rangers wouldn't have even made the play in game without him there.

You said that if some of his doubles turn into homers this year then he will be the top 3rd baseman. Even if that happens I don't see how he leaps over Beltre, Wright, or Longo.

I also mentioned he needs to improve his plate discipline and not hack at anything, which is definitely more important than homers, so that is my bad for how I phrased it.

Machado was already the best defender at 3B if you look at both DRS and UZR, so if he cleans up his approach at the plate and has some more power, there is no reason to believe he won't leap over Wright, Beltre, or Longo. Even a healthy Beltre in 2012 didn't match Machado's DRS and UZR ratings.
