I am a bit shocked that only one other person selected Ryan Zimmerman. I know that Longoria and Rodriguez have the name recognition, as does David Wright to an extent. Zimmerman is the gold standard at third base as far as defense goes, with some comparisons to Brooks Robinson.
Offensively, Zimmerman is pretty underrated, and he also has the disadvantage of playing in a pitchers park, and, by and large, a pitchers division. I just looked at a couple things on Yahoo, and it's actually surprising on last years stats. Yeah, it's just a few basics, as it's late at night and I have to work early tomorrow.
Zimmerman:
BA: .307
HR: 25
RBI: 85
OPS: .899
K: 98
Longoria:
BA: .294
HR: 22
RBI: 104
OPS: .879
K: 124
It's surprising how close they are, and that Zimmerman edged Longoria in most categories, with Longoria actually playing in just nine more games.
