Your not top ten forward anything with less than 70 points. People get overboard with intangibles. Points have value too, ya know.

Yes, you can be. +/- is the biggest stat for me. Toews had a nice +22, which was 18th in the league, 13th among forwards, 5th among centers.

EDIT: Malkin was a magnificent -6 last season.

How is it deceiving? I want a player that can be out there and help produce goals. I'll take a +22 players over a -20 player any day.

I agree that Malkin > Towes.

He has great intangibles, is a great leader and I like the way he plays. You can argue him being a top 5 center but I think he proved himself by winning the Gold Medal, Stanley Cup, Conn Symth that he is easily a top ten center.

I'm talking about forwards here. Of course Schultz had a +50 playing with Ovechkin (+45) ahead of him.

+/- reflects more on the team then the player.

If I'm building a first line no because Matt Cooke is not first or second line material like Havlat. If you want a +/- debate with two players who are on the same level I'd take Datsyuk over Crosby.

I know you're a Red Wing fan but come on. Even if Crosby was a -50 and Datsyuk was a +50, Crosby is a better player. Taking players because of their +/- is a disaster.

It's not based solely on their +/-. I'm saying it's an important stat that shouldn't be overlooked. Datsyuk consistently has a great +/- that has also contributed to the Wings great performances over the last few seasons. Datsyuk is a top 5 player and I'd take him over Crosby, not just because I'm a Wings fan. Datsyuk is a great two dimensional player.

So is Crosby. He's a very good two-way forward, who had 50 goals last year. He's better than Datsyuk.

Crosby is better but not loads better where 100% of people would choose Crosby over Datsyuk.

There's nothing intangible about a 6' 2" 210 lb middleman with accolades as the best player at the world's greatest international hockey competition and the world's greatest club hockey competition. Second youngest Stanley Cup winning captain of all time, youngest member of the Triple Gold Club. He's 22, has achieved everything that matters and isn't in someone's top 10 because he only scores just under 1 point per game in the regular season (1+ point per game in his playoff career mind you).

He's disciplined, kills penalties, plays on the powerplay and is one of the best faceoff men in the NHL too.
