Best RB Ever - fun poll...participate or die

I get into this debate at least once a year and it came up at Christmas this year. This is just for fun, so no one take this too seriously, but, I want to take a vote on who VSN thinks is the "Greatest RB of All-Time."

Vote, give your opinion, pick a fight...do whatever. I just want to get a feel for the community and get a bit of dialogue going.

I will post a poll, but, the options will be:

Emmitt Smith
Walter Payton
Barry Sanders
Jim Brown

But as I love to back Barry in the threads vs Emmitt, I had to vote for Barry, plus he's one of my favorite players of alltime, I have only seen highlights of Jim Brown and watched Barrys whole career since his Heisman winning year at Oklahoma state, and we have the same first name.

Emmitt holds the record on longevity alone. To me, #1 is Jim Brown and #2 is Walter Payton. If Brown didn't retire early to pursue acting, he'd still be the record holder today. Jim Brown was that good!

I didn't mean every single older member. Just seems like more of the older members are voting Brown #1...then again, I don't know everyone's age, so I could be wrong.

A. Great job not falling prey to stupidity. Those 4 men are the only ones in the discussion.

B. Its Jim Brown then a hair...then the 3 guys who only have half a hair of difference between them.
Theres little to no argument for the other 3 you cant make for Brown.

C. Anyone brushing off Emmitt needs there head examined for massive bias. 4 rushing titles in his 6 years ,an MVP award , a SB MVP award and the single season TD record , and NFL all time rushing TD record within 8 years. Thats not longevity thats greatness.
OTTOMH took him an extra year and half to surpass Barry. Would have taken Barry 5+ years to surpass Emmitts TD total. At the same points in there career Emmitt had 1300 less yards but about 35 more tds.
If 1300 > 35 TDs than we are redefining the game of football.


D.13 votes for Barry and only 2 for Payton makes me think only the casuals are awake on Monday morning. Every pro Barry argument ((bad team , offensive line , blah blah)) is an argument thats stronger for Payton. Except Payton is THE greatest goalline runner of all time. Was x infinity a better blocker. Almost never lost yardage trying to go for the big run.

Barrys my 2nd favorite RB of all time...but out side of Would have Could have IF and BUT theres no argument for GOAT that Payton or Brown dont hold.
Other than "best pure runner" in which case I hope Marinos also your greatest QB of all time.


I think that sums up my stance on every most facets of this so =-).

I was always a fan of Gale Sayers highlights but since he isn't on the poll i'll go with Jim Brown.

Edit: On a side note, i heard a lot of football pundits say that Ernie Davis could have been a better running back than Jim Brown had he never got cancer... i dunno if i believe that or not.

smith played on a team that won 3 rings and for the better part of the 90's was always in the playoffs. he had great players around him and if it wasnt him who got those yards and stats it could have been anyone else who happened to be a decent running back. sanders played on a losing team for his whole career. switch them places and sanders has all smith's records and then some. you must be the same person that puts troy aikman in the top 5 of GOAT qb's. go ahead and groan me you dallas homers, of course being led by derrville... lol.

5 yards per carry. Never had under 1100 yards rushing and his lowest total came in a season in which he only played 11 games. Got his 2,000 yard season in 14 games (first two games of the year only had a combined total of 53 yards) by going over 100 yards in each of those games. Barry is the best.

lol I love it when Deacon Jones talks. According to him he has like 500 sacks and had like a 10 sack game. Stats weren't counted during that time.
