Manning
Brady
Peterson
Moss
Theres a drop off after that (on offense).
Fitzgerald is knocking on that lists door...huge drop off? Naaahhh
QB>RB
Outside of Emmitt , Faulk ,Terrell Davis youd have to go back decades* to find the league top running back leading a team to a SuperBowl. Even they all had franchise QBs.
Outside of Brady, Warner, and Gannon you'd have to go back to Marino in 1984 to find the leagues top QB leading his team to the Super Bowl. Before that you'd have to go back to never. So it happens about as often as the leagues top RB's.
Brady , Manning , Warner , Big Ben .... The top QBs in the league have been frequent visitors to the SB.
Manning is a frequent visitor? ORLY
Brady wasn't a top producer until Moss.
Warner can't get there wihout HOF WR's.
Big Ben is only considered a top QB because he makes it to the SB, his stat line hasn't been exactly amazing.
If anything Arizona proved you can have a shitty D, no running game and still get to the SuperBowl on your QBs arm.
Yeah because the Cards D didn't do well at all in the playoffs last year, and he didn't have Fitz acting like a super hero also.
Not sure if any team has gotten there on the basis of an elite running attack alone.
'05 Steelers had Parker Bettis leading the way, '05 Seahawks had Alexander with 1880 yds with 27 TDs, '04 Pats had Corry Dillons 1635 rushing yards 12 TDs, '03 Panthers had Stephen Davis' 1444 and 8 TD's, '00 Ravens had Jamal Lewis, '98 Falcons had Jamal Lewis, '97-98 Broncs had TD Davis,'96 Pats had Curtis Martin...all sorts of great rushing attacks make the Super Bowl. You act like run heavy teams don't make the Super Bowl. That's a joke. Beyond that I'd venture to say teams that have a balanced attack on offense tend to make better playoff teams.
Ever hear the term Defense wins Championships?
Brady has had one of the best D's around him his entire career, Big Ben has maybe the best D around him, The year Peyton and Warner got there both their D's played superior football throughout the playoffs, Eli had a very good D, Baltimore won in 2000 with one of the best D's ever assembled. QB's and RB's can't do it alone.
Peterson looks elite...
But Id still take the top 5-8 QBs in the league before I take Peterson.
**yeh yeh I know about Alexander but that playoff run solidified pussy status for him.[/QUOTE]
ORLY? He beat Carolina in the NFC Championship on 34 carries and 132 yards. Then went on to have 95 yds on 20 carries in the SB. I think Alexander had an injury in the first game when he had only 6 carries...so why do you say he had a pussy status? Maybe you meant the previous two playoff runs when he had 40 y/per game?
My final point is that an Elite RB or Elite QB needs play makers, and a Defense that is A) great or B) Plays great for a short time period, in order to get into the SB. Brady wasn't Elite with an 86 QB rating, and 2800 passing yards when he won the SB, hell he didn't have a QB rating in the 90's until 2004, and didn't lead the league in passing until 2005 and they didn't make the SB that year. Eli Manning, Big Ben, Rex Grossman, Jake Delhomme, and Brad Johnson have all make SB appearances this decade, none of them have been Elite, but they all had an Elite Defense the year they made it. Throw an Elite RB, or an Elite QB on any team with an Elite D and you have a contender. It's obviously not just about having an Elite QB, or an Elite RB alone.
All that said, I'd take Brady as long as he's on the Patriots and has three rings already. If you add a legit QB (maybe or maybe not Favre) to the Vikings and you have a contender there as well, so Peterson could be just as worthy a choice, so I can't knock anybody for picking him as well. But I'm going with the hardware, and Brady has 3.5 more reasons over Peterson IMO.
