Big Ten Looking To Expand

The Big Ten Conference will actively explore the possibility of expansion in the next 12-18 months, according to a statement released Tuesday from the league's Council of Presidents/Chancellors.

The Little Ten is looking to expand. This would make them a 12 team league (The Big 10 name is useless already.) From rumors I've heard Notre Dame, Pitt, Cincy, Rutgers, and Mizzou as top targets.

And I personally don't see Pitt leaving the Big East mainly for basketball. Rutgers would make the most sense for a team that leaves the Big East. Notre Dame isn't going to jump into a league so I just don't see it happening. And why would Mizzou leave the Big 12? I don't really foresee this happening, but I thought it was interesting.

i thought some teams were in two different conferences when it came to football and basketball? i may be wrong...

but anyway the only team out of the ones named i could see moving into the Big Ten would be Cincy

I'm not sure about the football/basketball thing, but the only thing that comes to mind is the teams that don't have FBS teams (i.e. Nova) playing in a different conference or teams like Notre Dame who are in the Big East for basketball, but remain Indy for football.

Haha seven football teams... We not only outnumber the Little Ten in Basketball, but we have 7-8-9 teams competing for a tourny spot every year. Where teams like Penn State are normally good in football, they lack any chance of being on a level of Pitt, Nova, WVU, Georgetown, Louisville, UConn, and Cuse in basketball.

But since we're talking football, even if they took Cuse they would be no better. How would Cuse help them as a football conference right now? And Cuse would own in Basketball 8 out of 10 years, but would probably only win the Big East 2 or 3 times in that span.

Haha well you can't change it to the Big 12. Personally the Big 10 name is there for tradition and nothing more, but 12 teams in a "Big 10" just makes it look dumb. I mean what about those other 2 teams in their conference, they must be little huh?

aside from notre dame these schools (that are not already in the big 10) are the only legit candidates and from those you can eliminate any school that is not in a state that boarders a big ten school as that is also a requirement.
