The sale of the Bills from the Wilson family to Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula was reportedly moving fast late Monday night.
On Tuesday morning, the Buffalo News reported that the process is nearly complete.
The news shouldn't come as a surprise.
On Sunday, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that Pegula was the clear front-runner for a franchise that could fetch somewhere between $1.1 billion and $1.4 billion.
As La Canfora wrote, "Pegula has strong public support, given his commitment to keeping the team in Western New York, and his finances are above reproach, and at a time when many other suitors are falling by the way side, he is prepared to make a strong bid for the team. Of the known candidates -- and there is a possibility that bidders could emerge who have not been identified to this point -- Pegula's well poised to emerge, and even if the NFL finds a party to enter the equation late and push the sale price further above the $1 billion range, forcing an auction scenario of some sort, Pegula has expressed a willingness to confidants to do whatever he has to do to get the team, sources said."
Previously, a Toronto-based group led by Jon Bon Jovi had basically been pushed out of the running, while Donald Trump also failed in his own attempt to buy the team.
Assuming the sale goes through, La Canfora reports that Pegula will "have no trouble getting voted in" at the next owners meeting in October.
