2011 Poster Of The Year
I can't link it because it's a pay show. Interview by Bryan Alvarez & Dave Meltzer. Highlights:
-King Mo is still slated to enter the 205 tournament in January, health permitting.
-Rebney says he had conversations with Kurt Angle over the years, but talks never got serious. He hinted that Angle was too old to develop into a serious fighter.
-When asked about Rampage Jackson and Josh Barnett, he danced around it, but hinted that "like Paul Daley", if they become available they would talk. You got the impression he is interested in both but didn't want to say.
-Rebney says Shawn Bunch will not enter tournaments until he is ready. Rebney would like to see Bunch fight up to six times next season, and then possibly enter a tournament the following season if he progresses like they think he will. He says Mo & Askren pushed for Bunch to be signed, and Rebney says he would have signed him whether he had made the Olympic team or not.
-When asked about more outdoor shows, Rebney said not likely moving forward. Hinted that they looked too low rent and that they have moved beyond that as a company.
-Besides 205, he expects 170 & 145 tournaments for the January season, but nothing is set.
-No date is set for the September season debut yet.
-When asked about a non title Michael Chandler vs Eddie Alvarez fight, Rebney made it sound like that isn't in the cards. Alvarez has one fight left, and Rebney said he is open to re-signing him, but doesn't know what will happen. He said with Chandler scheduled to defend the title versus Rick Hawn, an Alvarez rematch doesnt seem likely due to the timing and contracts.
-Rebney was non committal concerning what night of the week they will air on Spike. He kept talking about staying on Fridays, but said ultimately he didn't know yet when they would air.
-Rebney said they simply couldn't match Hector Lombard's contract with Zuffa because of PPV points. He said they could have matched the estimated money but it would not have been a good business decision to do so, so they let him go. He said they did not get this far as a company by making bad business decisions, and it would have been a bad decision to match the offer. He said Bellator may move to a PPV model at some point, but not any time soon.
