Blake Griffin To Receive Max Deal

The Clippers will sign Blake Griffin to a five-year, $95 million extension on July 1, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Griffin is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and the team will look to lock him up as soon as possible. The team has to preserve financial flexibility to get Griffin on a new deal while still leaving enough cap space to sign Chris Paul to a maximum contract extension as well. We don't expect negotiations between the Clippers and Griffin to take very long to complete.

I'd say its a rather huge deal for someone who does not have that great of a post up/mid range game yet. The good thing is he is still young so if he can develop some sort of mid range jumper and a little better post game, he will be one of the best players in the league and well worth the money.

I honestly don't see him as a guy worth that much money at what he has shown already, but since he is still young and developing, he has the potential to reach the production that is needed to make this deal worth it. 20/10 is great, but he'll have to be at least a 25/10 guy who can go off for 30/15 on any night to make this worth the deal.

From a pure basketball view this seems absurd at the moment but from a marketing view its genius. The clippers have to do whatever it takes to try to put more red and blue fans in the staples center

LOL, if you're the Clips you can't tell Griffin, "Hey, um you're not Duncan in his prime, so we're not going to pay you a max deal.....does $9 million per work?" Griffin is a max contract guy and as long as Chris Paul is there and Griffin remains healthy he will be worth it.

No, I'm saying that Griffin making about 3 million dollars more than Durant, Paul, Lebron, Wade, Deron Williams, and slightly more than guys like Anthony and Nowitzki seems a bit overpaid. That isn't bashing Griffin, that is just saying he shouldn't be making that level of money. He is a very, very good player, but not on THAT level yet. Plus, he is going to be hurting his team's cap space by taking this deal as opposed to one that puts his cap number at say 13-16 million instead of 19 million.

I understand, but the team HAS to give Griffin a max deal (or at least offer it)...........obviously it isn't ideal and IMO Griffin will never be an elite PF, but we're talking about the Clippers........they essentially have to overpay for the betterment of the franchise. Chris Paul is an UFR after this season. All of their money is gonna be tied up to Griffin and CP(If he resigns). CP gonna live his entire career as a 4th seed playoff team.

Agreed, the Clippers need Blake, but 19 million a year is a double edged sword.
