Former Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders plans to sign a one-year deal with the San Diego Chargers Thursday night, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Sanders also visited the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills this offseason, according to sources.

Since signing a five-year, $37.5 million deal after being named the defensive player of the year in 2007, the oft-injured Sanders played in only nine regular-season games for the Colts.

Sanders played in just one game last season, leaving the Colts' opener on the team's first defensive series with a torn left biceps.

With safety Antoine Bethea signing a four-year, $27 million contract last summer; Melvin Bullitt, Sanders' backup, emerging as a competent starter; and the Colts still trying to sign four-time league MVP Peyton Manning to a new long-term deal, there wasn't enough room to keep Sanders.

Sanders has 373 tackles, 3½ sacks, two forced fumbles, three recoveries and six interceptions in seven NFL seasons.

I still don't understand the infatuation with Indy v. SD

SD hasn't seen a legitimate Colts squad in years and everyone rides those games like hell but Manning continues to rape Ray Lewis and company Every Fucking Year but you can count on people picking Baltimore to beat Indy in the playoffs.

Good for Sanders finding a team, glad it's over and Colt fans can now have some closure. Bob Sander's time in Indianapolis is officially over and we can start thinking about how we plan to take some pressure off of Bethea because even though #41 has been stepping up and playing like a top safety in this league for almost 3 years now he's a FS and shouldn't be fighting for the team lead in tackles every season.

I personally do not think Melvin is the solution at SS, while I think Melvin is a great guy for depth I don't think he's the solution at the SS position and I think we'll probably see Indianapolis pick one up in the draft, it should be interesting to see when.

Indy is looking pretty crazy this year though, the Draft this year is probably going to be the most important draft we've had for years.

It's almost exciting seeing your team pick early for once (lol @ 22 being early but hey it's been a while) and waiting to see how some of these holes are filled up.
