Unlike a guy like Jamie Dixon, Stevens is young and has a chance to become a Coach K/John Thompson/Jim Calhoun like figure by staying at one school for decades, establishing that school as a perennial power, and turning it into a CBB mecca.
Short term he is leaving money on the table, but this is a wise long term investment on both his legacy and his wallet.

W2B stole my thunder. These days, coaches who turn around mid-majors can be set up for a long time. Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart are in good situations, and Butler will get even more exposure playing in the Big East at MSG. Why leave that for UCLA, where you might get fired if you don't win quickly?
Either way, Dixon is still entrenched, and building the program as best he can. 5 more years in the tournament and Pitt will have more Tourney appearances under him than in their entire history prior to his hiring.
