Well, San Francisco is no longer tied with the most Superbowl victories, so I had to think of another All-Time bragging point for my team... I came up with this.

The 49ers can claim arguably the best player of all time at 4 different positions (when I say arguably, I mean "they're definitely in the conversation", so my including Joe Montana on the list doesn't mean someone else can't claim Favre or Marino).

QB- Joe Montana
WR- Jerry Rice
FS- Ronnie Lott
FB- Tom Rathman

With Pittsburgh it's obvious... one for the thumb. Dallas can probably make a better "greatest player" by position argument than I can, honestly, but I think 4 is pretty damn good, especially when two of them are pretty darn close to clear cut (Rice and Lott).

LOL at Tom Rathman being a team's "claim to fame". That would be like the Pittsburgh Pirates saying their claim to fame is having Kent Tekulve, arguably the greatest setup man in MLB history.

Simple answer is TV rights. The way Sky, ITV, BBC and Setanta negotiate in Britain has lead to huge cash windfalls for all Premiership teams. Italian teams negotiate on an individual basis, so while AC Milan, Inter and Juve all have decent TV contracts they don't have a unified bargaining front. The Champions League is also a huge cash cow (they are defending champs) that generates more TV revenue and a decent chunk of change for going far in the tourney (they are in the quarters now, likely will make at least the semis, if not win the whole thing)

Plus Man United is HUGE in merchandise sales. They are the team that everyone in China recognizes.

And Brazil, well, half of those teams are bankrupt and all their best players go to Europe as soon as they can.

Manchester United does have a massive debt service though, so filling their 80,000 person stadium and leading the world in merchandise sales doesn't go as far as it possibly could
