Brian Urlacher is out for the season recovering from wrist surgery but the Bears’ star middle linebacker delivered a bone-jarring blow to his team’s decision to rebuild its playing style around new quarterback Jay Cutler.

“Look, I love Jay, and I understand he’s a great player who can take us a long way,” Urlacher told Yahoo.com. “But I hate the way our identity has changed. We used to establish the run and wear teams down and try not to make mistakes, and we’d rely on our defense to keep us in the game and make big plays to put us in position to win. Kyle Orton might not be the flashiest quarterback, but the guy is the winner, and that formula worked for us. I hate to say it, but that’s the truth.”

Now the face of the franchise is a guy who throws more interceptions than TD's and has never had a winning season.

Cutler is like a poor man's version of Jake Plummer in Arizona, but at least Plummer won the division in his second year with a defense ranked 21st and no running game.

His is not doing well, and nobody can deny that this year. But, once he got here, he was crowned and handed that role. A Pro Bowl/Semi-Superstar QB in one of the biggest cities in the country, the city gladly gave that to him and Urlacher was never able to handle it.

Urlacher is a moron. In the Silver article on Yahoo he completely neglects the fact that Cutler had -1 sec to throw the ball on each pass play and Lovie Smith is overrated as a head coach and defensive coordinator. The only thing he got right was the Bears forgetting to run the ball. But to say Orton would be better to have....really? Most of the times Orton had the same problems Cutler has right now. Receivers running the wrong routes, everyone except for Knox, Forte and Olsen has bricks for hands.

while it may be a big part of it that the o-line sucks and it is true that there isn't a number one or even a real number 2 wide out (knox is a slot man at best right now, but he has more potential than hester) the fact that jay cutlulz was hailed as the missing piece in chi-town added to his penchant for being a mopey bitch who throws picks isn't helping either. Urlacher is wrong about orton doing better, we have seen what happenes to him in Denver when teams get pressure on him and it isn't much better than Jay is doing and he has an actual recievers corps.

Face it bears fans, the d got old fast, the o-line got bad even faster, ron turner calls plays like he is playing madden and no one on that team is hearing Lovie's message anymore. It would be in their best interest to go into rebuild mode, but unfortuantely for them they gave away their draft picks for Cutler.

Eh, had Chicago kept Orton and that 1st round pick they could've drafted Michael Oher. Or maybe Orton could've just thrown bubble screens to Percy Harvin all year or something.

Urlacher does have a point though, since Ron Turners play selection gets worse when he has a QB he believes in.
