Browns release D'Qwell Jackson

The Cleveland Browns have released veteran linebacker D'Qwell Jackson.

The team made the announcement in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

"We had positive discussion with D'Qwell and his agent over the last several days, and we came to the mutual agreement to go in different directions," Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in the release.

"D'Qwell is the epitome of class, leadership and professionalism. Every day of his NFL career, D'Qwell has been a solid representative of the Browns and the city of Cleveland, both between the lines on Sundays and off the field in our area community. We want to thank him for his eight years of service and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors."

Jackson played in 97 games and made 96 starts for the Browns during his eight-year career after the team selected him with a second-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.

During that time, he registered 891 total tackles, 566 solo stops and 11.5 sacks for 61 lost yards. Jackson intercepted eight passes, which he returned for 85 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown in the 2012 home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also forced five fumbles and recovered seven others.

He was a defensive captain on three separate occasions.

Jackson's most productive season came in 2008, when he led the NFL with 191 total tackles. He registered 114 solo stops, two sacks and a career-best three interceptions that season.

Following the 2009 and 2010 seasons, in which Jackson missed 26 consecutive games with separate pectoral tears, he registered three straight years with 100 or more tackles and set a new career best with 3.5 sacks in 2011, a mark he equaled in 2012.

"I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for opening your arms and hearts to my family and me, and for making Cleveland an easy place to love and call home. It's been an honor playing in front of you.

"I also would like to thank the Browns' players, coaches and staff for their tireless work and commitment. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all and will always carry you with me."

Its been rumored for weeks. Huge salary and unsure defensive scheme kinda expedited the process unfortunately.

Ie Jackson a fit for the 3-4, especially if you already have another inside linebacker who is solid in pass-coverage?

He is typically a 4-3 animal on the inside. His coverage skills are very limited but he played exceptionally well last year in the 3-4.

Who knows how good this guy could have been if he ever had a good D/team surrounding him and stayed healthy.

Sounds like he was a great player when he was, I didn't get to watch him all that much out here.
