Adam Gase tops the list of young assistants in line for head-coaching gigs due to his success as the Broncos' offensive coordinator. And it's that success that has the Browns, an organization not known for its patience, patiently waiting until Denver's season ends to interview Gase before they hire another coach, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis.

Earlier this month, the Browns fired Rob Chudzinski less than 12 months after hiring him.

Gase, who is preparing to face the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, has already notified the Browns and the Vikings that he will not interview until the Broncos' season is over. Reports are that Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is the front-runner to land the Minnesota job.

Meanwhile, while Cleveland waits, the organization has also kicked the tires on former Titans coach Mike Munchak, Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Packers quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, and they reportedly have interest in Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell and Zimmer.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns will interview other candidates if Gase turns them down, adding that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is close friends with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, dating back to Manning's time at the University of Tennessee.

Jesus H. Christ... can we please get a proven head coach at some level.... Make no mistakes... Peyton Manning is the Broncos offensive coordinator. This other guy is just riding coat tails.

By all accounts Gase is a smart guy, but he's a kid.

The Browns are in total disarray at this point. I think they had a guy or two in mind when they cut ties with Chud and struck out on them.

Now they're in CYA mode and they're probably going to wind up downgrading at HC because of it.

I certainly agree. This is a huge draft coming up with big holes at WR, Slot, HB, and QB. Hoyer is serviceable for the short term, HB Edwin Baker would make a great 3rd down back but not a 15 touches a game guy. Gordon is a stud but a solid number 2 (Sammy Watkins anyone?!?) and a healthy Benjamin in the slot would be helpful. Bringing in a complete overhaul on both sides of the ball would be stupid.

Hand the job to Ray Horton and at least keep the defense intact.

yeah, they been mentioning Gase since day 1, but he wont interview until after the season.

the news around the last few days is how candidates have been calling chud for his opinion on the leadership. he has been honest with these coaches and basically talking about how bad it is because the 3 stooges are not on the same page. its a fucking mess

What proven coach is going to want any part of that organization right now?
 
If Peyton Manning fails that medical exam, maybe he could pull a Jason Kidd and become Cleveland's next coach.

Was being tongue in cheek ... get over it. Though, to be fair, I think Peyton Manning could be a great NFL head coach. He is such a football nerd and would have the instant respect of his players.

They've already told Horton he could interview for other coaching positions out there, sadly.

With two coaches who have withdrawn from consideration, including Todd Bowles who has never been a head coach, this is just turning out to be awful for the Browns franchise. You guys deserve a whole lot better, and I thought that a new owner who came from a great franchise and a great personnel guy in Joe Banner would take you there. That clearly isn't the case.
 
oh and they had the denver beat writer on radio this morning. he said word around the broncos is that Gase isnt ready to be a HC....sound perfect for us
