Bulls Deal Gray To Hornets For Brown

The Chicago Bulls announced today that the team has acquired guard Devin Brown from the New Orleans Hornets for center Aaron Gray.

“We’re excited to add Devin Brown to our team,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “His toughness, defensive versatility, and shooting will be excellent additions to our perimeter rotation.”

I know the Hornets are trying to cut payroll but Chris Paul cant be a happy camper right now if they're trading away all these players.

This trade doesn't really reduce payroll though. I think they saved something like $100,000 with this trade. You can't really cut payroll with NBA trades/salary cap, especially this year when nobody wants to give up expiring contracts.

The Hornets are fucked, they are expensive and mediocre (NBA hell).

Yeah.. he was actually starting the Hornets, which makes this kind of a strange trade considering the Hornets are actually making a nice for a playoff spot right now. I like Gray's game.. but Brown does a lot of little things to help a team.

Marcus Thornton got 19 points in his 1st start tonight in a Hornets win over the Blazers. I been waiting for Thornton to get that starting spot.

This wasn't a huge deal for either side, but it definitely filled holes that both teams had. The Hornets really have some holes to plug in the front court, and any time you add a legit 7-foot center, that helps the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, the Bulls really need to add a shooter/scorer, and that's what Devin Brown has been known for throughout his NBA career.

So basically this move helps both teams...but wasn't really necessary for the teams' success.

For the Bulls though, it creates (at the moment) a logjam of 2 guards with Hinrich, Salmons, Pargo and now Brown.

That's not a terrible problem to have as Brown will likely take away minutes from Pargo (who has sucked). What it helps though is the Bulls can really pursue trades for Hinrich or Salmons to open up cap space. Salmons has an opt-in clause next year that I think is for something like $9 million. The Bulls would LOVE to rid Salmons before he can opt-in.

Tonight in another Hornets win Thornton manages to get 18 points and 2 steals.

Brown was nothing more than a fill-in until the coaches believed Thornton was ready to start.

Exactly. Pargo doesn't deserve any minutes anymore. He has done NOTHING to help this team.

They could also do the same with James Johnson, he's going to be out of the league in 2 years.

Its ashame that just a few years ago the Hornets were considered one of the good up and coming teams, but now they're mediocre. I'd like to see Chris Paul surrounded by some better talent, because he's easily a top 5 plyer in the league.

They got good at the wrong time. Everyone was due for a payday and they got caught in a terrible position of paying big money for Chandler and Peja who didn't deserve it. They've had no flexibility and injuries to Peja and Chandler regressing (since been traded for equally overpaid Emeka Okafor).
