Cardinals agreed to terms with RB Rashard Mendenhall, formerly of the Steelers, on a one-year contract.

The addition throws a wrench into Ryan Williams' 2013 fantasy football outlook, though the two young backs will likely wage a camp battle. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians believes in true feature backs as opposed to committees, evidenced by his Mendenhall usage in Pittsburgh and Vick Ballard in Indy last year. Mendenhall is only 26 years old, and will be a full season removed from his ACL tear in 2013. Once compared to Edgerrin James by Arians, Mendenhall will probably shape up as a middle-round fantasy pick behind a weak Arizona offensive line.

Mendenhall will get $2.5m.

Cardinals signed ILB Lorenzo Alexander, formerly of the Redskins, to a three-year contract.

It's an underrated signing as Alexander is one of the league's premier special teamers. He can also help fill a need spot for the Cardinals next to dominant inside 'backer Daryl Washington. Alexander had 47 tackles and 2.5 sacks in spot duty for the Redskins last season.

Cardinals agreed to terms with KR/WR Josh Cribbs, formerly of the Browns.

Cribbs was reportedly picking between the Cardinals and Patriots on Tuesday. He chose the team with a stud punt returner in Patrick Peterson and an already-set trio of starting receivers. Arizona could pull Peterson off of returns and let him focus on cornerback. Cribbs averaged 27.4 yard per return on kickoffs and 12.0 yards on punt returns in 2012.

Cardinals agreed to terms with CB Jerraud Powers, formerly of the Colts, to a three-year contract.

New head coach Bruce Arians has his fingerprints all over this one. He got a first-hand look at Powers in practice every day last season while both were in Indianapolis. Now Powers will step in as a starter opposite Patrick Peterson in the Cardinals' thin secondary.

Cardinals agreed to terms with S Yeremiah Bell, formerly of the Jets.

Bell, 35, replaces recently released Kerry Rhodes. It's likely a one-year deal for Bell, who registered 89 tackles and two pass breakups with New York last season. Cardinals DC Todd Bowles was Bell's position coach in Miami from 2008-11. We suspect Bell will be Arizona's free safety with Rashad Johnson at strong.

Cardinals released QB Kevin Kolb.

The move saves $7.5 million in cap space. Per The Sideline View's Adam Caplan, the sides "discussed various options for him to return," but could not come to an agreement. Interestingly, Caplan reports Arizona has "left the door open" for Kolb to return at a cheaper rate. Kolb would be returning to a competition with Brian Hoyer and Drew Stanton — at the very least — while earning a bargain-basement salary. We fully expect him to move on. The Jets, Bills and Browns are all possible landing spots. A colossal bust who cost Arizona a second-round pick, then-top cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and a six-year, $65 million contract just after the lockout, Kolb finished his two-season Cardinals stint with a 6-8 record, 17:16 touchdown-to-turnover ratio, and sub-60 percent completion rate. He's still only 28 years old.

Cardinals signed DE Matt Shaughnessy to a one-year contract.

Shaughnessy is smartly taking a one-year, "prove-it" deal in an effort to rehab his value at age 26. Shaughnessy flashed legit Pro Bowl-caliber talent early in his career with Oakland -- specifically 2010 -- before a major shoulder injury wiped out his 2011 season and he returned less effective in 2012. If back to 100 percent, Shaughnessy could end up as the Cardinals' starting right defensive end. Bruce Arians promises to use Darnell Dockett inside more moving forward. Cardinals agreed to terms with CB Antoine Cason, formerly of the Chargers, on a one-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth $2 million, plus incentives. Long and lean at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Cason is a good fit for DC Todd Bowles' preferred press coverage. Although he's started each of the past three seasons, Cason could be coming to town as the Cardinals' No. 3 corner after they gave Jerraud Powers a three-year, $10.5 million deal. His size could land him on the outside, however, with Powers guarding the slot. Cason is coming off a year where he notched 73 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles, but graded out as the sixth worst cornerback in Pro Football Focus' ratings.
