Carroll seals West Ham loan move

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has joined West Ham on a season-long loan before the transfer deadline, with the Hammers having the option to complete a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee next summer.

Carroll, 23, has been linked with a move all summer and a West Ham statement read: "West Ham United are delighted to announce the signing of England striker Andy Carroll on a season-long loan deal."

The move sees him reunited with his former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce and captain Kevin Nolan and the striker is delighted to be getting a chance to play regular football after new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he wanted to offload him.

"It's great to be here at West Ham and all signed up - I just can't wait to get started now," Carroll said. "I want to be playing games and obviously hoping to score some goals. I know the manager well and some of the lads, so it is nice for me to come to a place where I know people.

"I'm hoping to add a lot of goals and create a few chances. I know Sam from Newcastle and he was a massive reason for me coming. When I worked with him at Newcastle it was great so it was a no-brainer really."

Allardyce was also understandably pleased to welcome Carroll to east London.

He said: "I think for all parties this is a great signing. Andy is an all-round footballer, but because he is 6' 3" and one of his strengths is his aerial power, everybody dismisses the ability he possesses on the floor.

"Hopefully he can score goals for us and we will be in a very good position at the end of the year in the Barclays Premier League."

You really think we'll get Llorente? I bet we end up dropping way too much on Sturridge. Llorente was the guy we couldn't get when we brought in Carroll.

If we bring another striker at a decent price, I guess I'm alright with the move. If we don't, then its a dumb one.

I'd settle for Sturridge but I think llorente is possible, he's only 10 months left they could lose him for nothing, its very obvious after tonight we need more than just Dempsey.

Its been obvious for a year that we need at the bare minimum one good finisher. I just don't see where the money will be coming from to buy Llorente.

Because we had Drogba and Torres ahead of him at his natural position and RDM prefers playing with midfielders on the wing, not strikers. Same reason why he hasn't featured much these first two weeks.

So you spent all summer trying to bring in Moses to play third choice striker? You sure as hell didn't bring Moses in to play on the wing after buying Marin, Hazard, and Oscar. Someone is going to have to leave or else they're going to watch their career stall.

First of all other clubs can't offer a contract to a player until they've had a transfer bid accepted. Second of all a player's transfer is contingent upon the player and new club agreeing to a new contract.

Daniel Sturridge's contract expires at the end of the season.
