Chiefs agreed to terms on a four-year, $16 million contract with TE Anthony Fasano.

It includes a $4.5 million signing bonus. Fasano, who will turn 29 in April, slides in as the No. 2 tight end behind Tony Moeaki. Used mostly as a blocker in Miami, his career-high for yardage is 528. We wouldn't expect Fasano to reach that mark in Andy Reid's West Coast scheme.

Chiefs signed DE Mike DeVito, formerly of the Jets, to a three-year, $12.6 million contract.

DeVito, 29 in June, is a one-dimensional run stopper who will replace Glenn Dorsey as a better fit for Kansas City's 3-4. Last season, DeVito racked up 52 tackles, a sack, and two forced fumbles as a 15-game starter in Rex Ryan's 3-4.

Chiefs agreed to terms with QB Chase Daniel, formerly of the Saints, on a three-year, $10 million contract.

The deal includes "just under" $5 million guaranteed. That's quite a pay-day for a player who has attempted just nine career passes, and will enter 2013 as Alex Smith's strict backup. New coach Andy Reid is clearly trying to groom Daniel into a future starter, but he shouldn't threaten Smith's job status this season. Reid has never been one to get caught short at the game's most important position.

Smith will get $18m with $11m guaranteed. I'd expect Dunta to be a safety and move to nickel in sub packages.

Avery will get 3-Years, $8.55m.

Chiefs released QB Matt Cassel.

The six-year, $63 million deal former GM Scott Pioli gave Cassel in 2009 proved disastrous. In 47 starts for the Chiefs, he went 19-28 while turning the ball over 57 times. New coach Andy Reid will move forward with Alex Smith and Chase Daniel, while the Vikings are widely expected to pursue Cassel. The Patriots could also show interest, putting the wheels in motion for a Ryan Mallett trade to the Browns. Cassel and Ryan Fitzpatrick are the top-two quarterbacks on the market right now. Hopefully, you're not the fan of a QB-needy team.

Chiefs agreed to terms with G/T Geoff Schwartz, formerly of the Vikings.

Schwartz appeared in 13 games as a reserve last season after losing the Vikings' right guard job to Brandon Fusco. Schwartz missed all of 2011 with a hip injury, but was a 16-game starter for the Panthers in 2010, primarily at right guard. He'll be a swing man off the Chiefs' bench, and could start in a pinch.

Moeaki also couldn't block me if I were coming off the edge. Fasano isn't Dwayne Carswell or anything like that but he can at least throw his body in front of LBs and slow them down.
