The Los Angeles Clippers agreed to trade Quentin Richardson to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair, Mark Madsen and Craig Smith on Monday.

Madsen spoke to his agent on Monday to confirm the deal.

The trade is expected to be announced later Monday after the teams complete a trade call with the league.

The trade will give the Clippers a solid backup point guard behind Baron Davis and give them some depth at the power forward position.

For the Wolves this essentially saves them some money next season and clears up a potential logjam at the point guard position. New Wolves GM David Kahn is currently in Spain trying to negotiate a buyout for Ricky Rubio. If Kahn can get an agreement, he will have both Rubio and their other lottery pick, Jonny Flynn, as the team's point guards.

Madsen spent six seasons in Minnesota. His playing time waned as his career progressed, but he remained a valued leader in the locker room.

Smith was a capable scorer off the bench for the Wolves, but the power forward had trouble getting consistent playing time behind Al Jefferson and Kevin Love.

Richardson averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds last season.

Ahh man. I really looked forward to Q being back in LA. I feel sorry for him. This is the 3rd time hes been traded so far this offseason. Atleast Mad Dog is back in LA.
 
Bad trade for the Twolves, Smith and Telfair can actually be productive affordable players, the small cap relief they get isn't worth what they give up.

Oh man.. if Iverson goes to the Clippers.. this could be the most dysfunctional team in NBA history.
 
Wow, the Wolves really are in HEAVY re-build mode. They just gave up 3 quality bench players for an expiring contract.

Clippers should be happy with this deal, they needed a back-up PG real bad. They also acquired an underrated 25 year old big man who still has some upside to him.
 
i dont mind the trade. Q-Rich can hopefully be explosive and thats what the wolves need.. telfair was to quiet

Decent trade by the Clippers. Taylor was awefull in the summer league. they brought in a guy who can bqck up Baron, and a good bigman. Madsen ill be waived more then likely.
 
Fuggin' Q Rich is the league bitch this off-season.

He's moved around through 4 of the worst teams in basketball...Knicks, Grizzlies, Clippers, and T'Wolves. Gotta suck to be Q-Rich.
 
Lol @ the T-Wolves man. What a joke franchise this is turning into. Craig Smith can play man.. Telfair has game too, but I can understand moving him. But moving Smith is a bad move.. that kids got heart and he plays bigger than he is. I like his game.

I like what the clips have done. Davis, Gordon, Thornton, Griffin and Camby as starters and Bassy, Kaman, DeAndre Jordan, and Craig Smith on the bench not to bad. They need a legit backup 2 guard. or atleast a combo guard. I think they make the playoffs now.

The only way for the Clippers to make the playoffs is if they have good chemistry and stay healthy.
