With that being said how can you possibly think Ripkin used them? The way he played steroids would have been stupid.

He helped himself get into great shape and likely used amphetamines like crazy to go out there and play every day.

I think I'm going to go out on a limb and say he did.

As of 2008, Anderson is one of only two players (the other being Barry Bonds) to have stolen 50 or more bases in a season (53 in 1992) and hit 50 or more home runs in a season (50 in 1996).

He's another guy that went from being a blazing stolen base threat to all of a sudden hitting 50 home runs, to going back to doing nothing.

I don't think he was, but like FedEx, def on greenies. Hell, as a bat boy for a local minor league team I've run back into the clubhouse and gotten massive amounts of pills, as well as greenies, etc. for players. Always a fun time.

Doubtful. Though honestly, I'm like 80/20 on it. I've met the dude at least 10 times. Shook his hand, even got to shoot the sh*t with him before. Nicest f'ing guy... or at least athlete, I've ever met. But that doesn't mean sh*t.

And the red flags are there. Going from the '90 season where he batted .250 with 21 HRs and 84 RBI..... to the '91 season where he hit a ridiculous .323 with 34 HRs and 114 RBI?!?!??! Hell, he even went from 28 doubles to 46 in that same timespan. The '92 season? -- .252 with 14 HRs, 72 RBI and second lowest slugging % of his career. Wow, insane swing from '90-'91 and from '91-'92.

Ripken diehards attribute that '91 season to his change in batting stance (one of about 100 changes), but that's one hell of a change.

Either way, you've gotta love the guy. Great role model, solid as a rock over those years... even if he was a semi-selfish mofo who has grounded into more double plays than any MLB player in history.

Looking back at his career, it doesn't appear to be the normal steroid career arc. And I don't see those three seasons as red flags, either. Coming into the '91 season, he had hit 20+ homers 9 years in a row. Though he had been in the low 20s for a couple of seasons, it's not unreasonable for him to have a jump into the 30s. It's not like he was suddenly threatening 50. Besides, he was only 30 at the time. Occasionally, guys really do just have a year where they put it all together.

I see '92 more as a case against him using 'roids than for it. If he suddenly got on the 'roids, why not continue? If he did continue, why did it take longer for his body to break down than just about anyone who's used them. He kept his consecutive game streak alive for 7 more years following the '91 season. His homerun totals were normally in the teens after '91 but had occasional spikes back into the 20s: 14, 24, 13, 17, 26, 17, 14, 18, 15, 14. Should we surmise that he went back on the juice in '93 & '96, the years he hit 24 & 26 respectively?

I just don't see it. Still, the way things are now it wouldn't really shock me to find out that he had.
