I didn't really see what happened. How did this come about? Did the crowd start inching closer and closer, or did UNC's staff just do this as a cautionary measure?
I think it's kind of a weird situation, normally rushing the court happens after a close game. Very rare when you have 10 minutes to prepare in a lopsided upset of the #1 team like that.
Rushing the court in general is stupid and should be frowned upon, IMO. But I don't really have any problems with UNC getting their guys out of there early if they knew there was about to be chaos.

Yes, crowd started inching closer and were obviously getting anxious to storm the floor. FSU coach Leonard Hamilton called Roy Williams over for a quick chat & suggested that Roy get his team out of there. So Roy took his squad to the lockerroom except for 5 walk-ons who played those final seconds.

It's so lame when schools like FSU, or Temple last year vs. like a 15th ranked Georgetown, and other schools that are already decent programs court storm. When you court storm, you are basically saying "WE KNOW YOU ARE BETTER THAN US, WE CANT EVEN BELIEVE WE WON!".
I have no problem with court storming if it's some Patriot League team knocking off UNC, but to me, that's just embarrassing for FSU and it tells you where the program really stands.

Ive rushed the field once and admittedly it was because i thought my HS team had NO SHOT at beating the team we did. It was a hs powerhouse team who hadnt lost a game in 7 years my HS football team were past our glory days.Gardner Webb beat Kentucky in RUpp during the Billy Gillispie days the 3 fans they had in attendance shoudlve rushed the court for sure.

This. I'll never forget Nick Saban walking over to the LSU student section after we knocked off Tennessee in OT in 2001 and thanking the fans for not storming the field. Later in the presser he clarified why he did it and he essentially said "I was glad the fans had the same standards for our program as I do. Act like you've been there before."
You know how many times ive saw UK fans storm the court in my lifetime? Zero and im not mad at all.
Once again i congratulate IU on being relevant again in Bball and on a great win over Kentucky.
I don't think it's because of where FSU stands as a program...I think it's more of UNC and the talk of them being national title contenders and a team that is one of the better starting 5's in the past few years. Add in HBFU and him being #1 pick potentially and I think those are the reasons why they did so (not to mention they blew them out bad).

the problem isn't that the players left. the problem I have is Roy Williams himself leaving. Even better, he started leaving the court WITHOUT his players and it took Leonard Hamilton had to stop Roy and tell him his players weren't following him.
You can't talk about safety reasons and then leave 5 walk-ons as sacrifices while the team and Roy himself left.
If Roy had stayed with the 5 walkons then it would have been comparable to 2006 Duke-FSU (although that was still different as FSU stormed the court with 1.7 seconds left in the game, so K told his bench to leave the game early)
