I don't think I've ever booed a player on my own team at a sporting event before, just never made sense to me. Where do you guys stand? Is it acceptable to boo a professional athlete for lack of performance, lack of effort, or both?

I can see if you want to boo a guy who is obviously dogging it, it's your money knock yourself out, but if a guy is really playing hard and just not getting good results it seems kind of pointless, maybe even counterproductive.
 
I've never done it at a sporting event myself. I hate when a player gets booed for a bad performance, I just don't think that's right. If he's half-assing it pretty bad, then I have nothing against it.
 
The last home team player I booed was fat Andruw Jones.

I generally don't like to boo home team players and I hate that all the Dodger fans have taken to booing Matt Kemp.

I wanted to boo Ted Lilly when he refused a rehab assignment even though he was still hurt, basically causing the Dodgers to forfeit a game and have poor Josh Wall throw 80 pitches in relief. I'd boo Luis Cruz, but it's not his fault that he sucks. Colletti deserves his share of booing.
 
I said this in another thread, but the only thing a player owes me as a paying customer is maximum effort. I spend quite a bit of money on baseball each year in the form of television packages, internet packages, & game tickets. It should be the rule, not the exception, that players i've contributed to make millionaires play as hard as they can.

No athlete owes you 'wins' or even great performance, no matter how much money they make. They owe you effort.

With that said, I don't boo. Never have, never will. I'm a pretty quiet fan. I clap in approval a lot. I do get excited during a big play and give a generic spontaneous YEAH!

I will say this. When I sit close enough to the dugout within earshot, I have yelled things at Dusty Baker. Nothing disrespectful, never profanity, usually in good fun because as most of you know I like Baker, but I have yelled at him to go get pitchers and things like that. I also stand & clap when a guy comes off the field after a great defensive play or big hit if im sitting behind the dugout.
 
I should also add, that i'm very careful in opposing stadiums when i'm rooting for the visiting team, which has actually always been the case for any game i'm ever been to. Nothing is more classless than loud obnoxious "look at me, i'm rooting for the VISITOR!" guy. It's embarrassing to me as a fan of the same side, and i've told guys like this to sit the fuck down and shut up at times. Wear your gear, cheer when appropriate, but don't be an asshole.

If you are a shitfuck on the Brewers who is lazy and doesn't give max effort I will boo every chance I get. Betancourt, Suppan, Gagne, Mota, Hart, Estrada, Vargas, etc.
 
Not so much boo, but I heckle the ever living shit out of the umpires. Even if I know got the call right, I still give him shit. Why? Because I pitched in HS and college and have a lot of aggression to get out towards umps. And because I can.
 
I may start booing Danny Espinosa. Not because I hate him, but because I think it's the only way management will realize that it's not acceptable to start a guy hitting .160 when is replacement is hitting 100 points higher and strikes out half as much. I don't hate him, but he needs to have his shoulder re-evaluated, go on the DL , and go back to the minors to rehab and get hitting.
