Do you use the left stick while hitting?

I've used the left stick ever since i tried a baseball game.. i never really believed that it gave you accuracy or more power or anything beneficial. But it just always seemed right.

Even when i hit a hard ball, and it was about to be a home run, or going deep.. i pushed the left stick as hard as i could UP.

Well you're fucking up then lol. You're supposed to aim it in the direction of the ball. In The Show you can actually swing over or under balls, but if u don't move it and just leave it in the middle then you can hit basically anything, you just won't get great contact.

Best thing I found for hitting is to work on your patience. I did that last game and had 13 hits and 9 runs on Roy Oswalt.

I always use the left stick. You have to in order to be a good hitter on HOF level or higher. Turn on the plate coverage indicator for an inning and you'll see what moving the left stick around does. For those players with big contact ratings, just pressing X will probably work, but for others you need to aim it for best contact. Also, when you chase a pitch outside the zone, moving the stick could be the difference between fouling it off or striking out.

The problem with moving the stick though, is that you may unintentionaly screw yourself up. You may see a fastball coming at you and misjudge it and think its high so you push up, but it's really down the middle and you cause yourself to hit a groundball. But I still think it's much better to use the stick than to not.

Ever since I've started playing the Show I've always used the left analog stick to aim my hitting. After talking to a few guys who said it's all about timing and they just hit X at the right time I decided to go into batting practice and give it a shot.

With aiming my numbers looked decent but most of my contact was a little early, late, etc... When I tried using just the "swing" technique my contact was much better and the timing was almost always perfect.

So this had me wondering. Have I been playing the game wrong all along? How do you guys hit?

turn on all the goofy graphics and see what you are actually doing with the left stick.



what i like to do is hold the controller straight up. I have a tendency to always want to push UP when I want to hit a ball deep......but i found out quickly that's not what you do. :vogel:

i usually do not use the left stick when hitting and i'm a pretty good hitter.

i don't understand how it would make the game arcadey either. using the left stick is awkward as all hell IMO and doesn't resemble real hitting whatsoever. hitting is hand eye coordination and getting the barrel of the bat to the ball is a natural thing, using the left stick is not. if a guy is pitching me a certain way over and over of course i'll use the left stick and look for pitches in that zone, just like in real hitting. if a guy is mixing up his pitch location i don't think a hitter goes to the plate looking for one particular location. deadly thing to do.

If you do it enough you don't think about it. Just like in real life when you first pick up a bat when you're young and you're just chopping at the air and missing.

I tried the left stick and I just can't do it.I wish this thing was like MVP where you use the left stick to pull or slap,but it isnt like that.You have to figure out if the ball is gonna be high or low and put the stick right there.I don't like that.It takes too much time for me to do that because the ball comes soo fast.

I definitely use the left stick...not using it is pointless on HoF or harder difficulty.

And hitting in real life you do think low or high, but with practice it becomes automatic.

I feel the same in the Show, I don't even think about it anymore, my thumb just pushes in the direction of the pitch.

p.s. I lead the Golden Sombrero league in HR's also if that means anything

What does the left stick do?

some say it does nothing.

some say it determines where your bat placement goes.

some just use it because it gives you more sense of control.

some just vote.

if you want to see what it does, turn on plate coverage indicator. (i think that's the setting.....fuck i dunno what it's called)


you'll get a yellow circle on screen when batting. it's basically where you are swinging the bat. that's what the left stick does.
