Patience, in the end, has paid off for veteran tailback Edgerrin James.

A league source tells us the ten-year pro has agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks.

Per the source, it's a one-year, $2 million deal.

James, the fifth overall pick in the 1999 draft, spent seven seasons with the Colts. He then signed a four-year deal with the Cardinals, who released him with one season remaining, at a base salary of $5 million.

The Cardinals initially declined to grant James his release, cutting him only after securing Beanie Wells with the 31st pick in the 2009 draft.

The Saints, who admitted that they tried to trade up to get Wells, reportedly were interested in James, but nothing ever materialized.

James currently has the eleventh highest career rushing total in league history, more than the likes of Franco Harris, Thurman Thomas, and John Riggins.

James trails Marcus Allen by only 122 yards, and James is only 158 behind Marshall Faulk.

James would pass Jim Brown 33 yards later, and Tony Dorsett would be leapfrogged another 427 after that.

The former University of Miami star joins a depth chart in Seattle that includes Julius Jones, T.J. Duckett, Justin Forsett, and Devin Moore. James' arrival might be bad news for Duckett, given that the tailbacks below second position typically are expected to play special teams.

Duckett is under contract through 2012, and he's due to receive a base salary in 2009 of $2.5 million. Jones is due to pocket $1.95 million in base salary.

Appearing in 16 games last season, Duckett rushed for only 172 yards. Jones generated 698 yards on the ground.

So, yeah, Duckett could be the odd man out.

Both Duckett and Jones were signed while Shaun Alexander, the 2005 MVP was still on the roster. Alexander later was cut.

He has since made no bones about his desire to play again, and the team's decision to take a chance on James likely has prompted Alexander to mutter more than a few bad words.

What's this mean for that dude Forsett. The way those Seahawk home announcers were gushing over him I thought you guys were all good at RB.
 
Maybe they could also add Mr. Dunn? But then they'd have two old, elusive backs... they'd still need some power.
 
Really can't help. I'm sure they had $2 Million to throw around anyway and this could end up helping them a lot. Not much downside to it.
 
why would edge sign this deal? he left arizona becasue he still thinks he is a starter. i know jones isnt a superstar but who would start a washed up edge over anyone?

Forsett is staying.. no doubt about that.

This likely means Duckett is gone. He's basically useless anyway though.

Two major reasons for this move from our POV

- He's a better pass blocker than Julius. By a long long way. The way our O-Line is dropping like flies, we need help in this area.

- He knows the Cardinals very well. Granted it's easier saying "Yo #11 is getting the ball here" .. but if it gives us even a slight insight to how they're running their offense, it can't hurt.

Not to mention.. he's going to be motivated to prove to Arizona they made a mistake.

Trust me.. he can't be worse than what we have.
 
If the Hawks are keeping Duckett and Forsett, then Griffith or Schmitt have to go. 6 running backs on the roster is 2 too many. Unless they plan on only having one tight end.
 
I like Edge and thought the coaching staff jerked him last year. Glad he's getting a shot to start, but going to Seattle is disappointing.
 
Ya. I doubt they're gonna be doing anything major in the upcoming season. They'll probably make it to the playoffs, though, and so could be a surprise deep-postseason contender.

I think it's simple = healthy Hasselbeck.. NFC West Champs

Injured Hasselbeck = long year.

He's played with a crappy OL and shit running game before and got us to the divisional round of the playoffs before Ryan Grant shit all over us. Hasselbeck is far and away the key to our success, similar to Warner in Arizona.
 
I suppose that makes as much sense as anything. I guess Seahawks FTW in the NFC West. Honestly, I think the NFC West is the only division where I don't hate or strongly dislike any team... So it doesn't matter as much to me who wins or loses it... but I like Aaron Curry and Hasselbeck and Edge, so - as previously stated - Seahawks FTW in the NFC West. :D
 
Well I certainly didn't. lol. The western divisions both seem a clusterfuck. It's like the Red Dragon casino in Rush Hour 2... EVERYBODY IS A WINNER! Which really means no one is... Who knows who'll win them? The only team I'd rule out in either division is the Rams, and they're undergoing a massive rebuilding project. Who knows how that'll end.

The 2008 Dolphins and Falcons will forever be remembered for some of the greatest turnarounds ever.
