Both Kinsler & Andrus would now be locked in long term with big $$$ deals while Profar is waiting in the wings, too.

Can't really hate on the deal either, even though I planned on it. I thought Andrus was older than 24, but he's not, so that makes this a much better decision for a $100 million deal.

Lets revisit this contract since Andrus is having a bad year statistically and he just cleared waivers. Apparently none of the 29 other GMs in baseball were willing to take on that contract.

Why would a team put in a claim knowing that Texas would just revoke it and rescind the waiver claim? Would be a waste of time.

Happens all the time. Teams do it in the offchance that the original team says "here you take him" or works out a deal with said team.

I don't think Texas would revoke it. I think they would love somebody to take that shit deal off their hands, and plug pre-arb Profar in at SS.

But since Andrus cleared waivers, apparently not a single GM thought it was worth taking the risk of having that contract dumped on them. Is it really that bad? He's still owed 126 million, over nine years. He's easily a two win player with the defense alone, so unless you think this year is the start of a trend, and not an outlier, he's worth the money.

I would have thought that the Dodgers would have been happy to add him. Play him at short and shift Hanley back to third.

I think that's a terrible deal to saddle your team with, I understand his potential value to your team but you're essentially destroying any salary flexibility for the next 9 years in the middle infield by acquiring him.

Plus you have a best case for him which makes him nearly worth the money, what about worst case?

Even if you don't want to save money you can reallocate Andrus money and spend it in a place you don't have a cheap young top prospect ready to take over. I bet Texas wouldn't have waited a second to give Andrus to whoever claimed him.

He has 18 extra base hits. He's never slugged .400 & is slugging .308 right now. If it wasn't for some SB's he'd be a complete void offensively. You can find all glove no stick SS's for league minimum every offseason, and not pay them $15M until 2023. It's one of the worst contracts in baseball.

I don't think it's that bad, although it is a head scratcher now. Especially considering that the front office is unable to tell Ron Washington to play Profar for some reason.
