Giants in the Super Bowl
:test:
1. Carolina Panthers - Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Unlike years past, there is no clear cut definite #1 choice this year. Since this is pre-combine, the three options are Fairley/WR Green/DE Bowers. Carolina needs that beast along the defensive front and Fairley has beast-like size and ability.
2. Denver Broncos - Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
This pick is a lot more interesting considering they are bringing back Champ Bailey and "reports" say the new leadership is already looking to get away from Tebow. A dark horse pick is QB Blaine Gabbert but I will assume John Fox is comfortable entrusting Orton with his offense. They are switching to a 4-3 and they don't have a big pass rusher opposite Elvis Dumervil. While I like Robert Quinn, I'm not sure he'll be the first pass rusher off the board. Bowers is that man.
3. Buffalo Bills - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
I don't like this pick for Buffalo but it makes sense. Chan Gailey would love to be able to gameplan for Newton and his unique skills and even if he sits his rookie year, they potentially have their franchise QB. However, Buffalo has so many needs on defense, they were so putrid last year. They could pick CB Peterson, De Quinn, LB Miller and they'd all be sound picks. When you have a chance to take a major quarterback, you cannot pass on it.
4. Cincinnati Bengals - A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
Perhaps a no brainer pick as the Bengals offense looks to be getting a major overhaul with a new starting quarterback, receivers and potentially even running back. If Green is available, they may run to take him. He's arguably in the same class as Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson when they were selected. They need someone on offense to give the ball to.
5. Arizona Cardinals - Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
Like I have said, I think Quinn is either #1 or #2 in terms of rushing the passer in this class. The fact he was not allowed to play his senior season be damned, the kid is a demon (in a good way
). The Cardinals can go in a number of directions whether it's quarterback (I assume they'll go the veteran route), CB Peterson (pass rushing is a premium though) or defensive front seven. The only issue is whether they like Quinn over Von Miller.
6. Cleveland Browns - Cameron Jordan, DE, California
Surprise, the first WTF pick, although Jordan is a legit top ten pick. The Browns need defensive ends in the worst way and Jordan is the next best 4-3 end on the board. He has a lot of upside and gives them youth and speed up front. Other possibilities include (surprisingly, he's still available) CB Peterson or DT Marcell Dareus.
7. San Francisco 49ers - Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
New ball coach will want his choice of a leader to run his offense and Gabbert fits the bill. He has a great arm and although he'll need time to adjust, he could become the best QB in the class.
8. Tennessee Titans - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
Considered the best corner in some time, he surprisingly drops to the Titans because of the all the lineman taken. Unlikely in the long run, but I can see this scenario play out.
9. Dallas Cowboys - Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
Their secondary has been bad and aging. They need an injection of youth and some believe Amukamara can be every bit as good as Peterson as a straight up pass defender. If Jerry Jones doesn't see corner as a need, then Marcell Dareus is the clear pick here.
10. Washington Redskins - Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M
With Gabbert gone, the Redskins will consider either receiver or one of the remaining pass rushers. Von Miller has a lot of hype around him and he could go as high as #3 to Buffalo, but circumstances have him falling to the ass end of the top ten (both QBs and both CBs going, Cleveland moving to a 4-3 and Quinn going). They need someone opposite Orakpo and Miller could be a huge get at this stage of the draft.
11. Houston Texans - Aldon Smith, OLB, Missouri
They are switching to a 3-4 and they may cream if Miller falls to them. He won't. They get to pick a guy who is surging up draft boards in the former of stand-up pass rusher Smith.
12. Minnesota Vikings - Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama
The Williams Wall is no more we can assume and they need to get younger up front. Dareus is a legit top 10 candidate who may not have the great combine as some of the men above him are expected to have.
13. Detroit Lions - Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
A mild surprise as most assume them to finally try and protect Matt Stafford with the first offensive tackle on the board. They figure they can get plenty of value later and go for the top corner on their board, the big Smith to inject some pop in that putrid secondary.
14. St. Louis Rams - Corey Liugent, DT, Illinois
Another mild surprise because most expect them to address Sam Bradford's desire to have a legit #1 weapon. Not here. Spags goes with the best available weapon up front in their eyes as Liugent is a strong mix of a run stuffer and QB sacker (for a tackle).
15. Miami Dolphins - Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
It seems everyone and their mamma has Ingram taking his talents to South Beach and I see no reason to change. They have no prime time backs on the roster and Ingram will give them a young(er) workhorse.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars - J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin
I have no real feel for where Jax may go so I gave them the best available lineman.
17. New England Patriots - Tyron Smith, OT, USC
The Pats would have loved to get Watt in this spot and while there are plenty of pass rushing OLBs available, they see the best value with Smith, a legit left tackle prospect.
18. San Diego Chargers - Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
While they could use an offensive tackle, they need some fresh talent up front on defense and Kerrigan is versatile as an end or tackle.
19. New York Giants - Anthony Costanzo, OT, Boston College
The Giants are getting old and are banged up, up front. They must address it at some point and with only one tackle off the board at this point, good value. Plus, Coughlin has the BC connection (and Snee, too).
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
By all accounts, there will be a defensive guy going here and in this situaiton, it's either OLB Ayers or Clayborn.
21. Kansas City Chiefs - Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
Trust me, I realize it's very unlikely JJ falls to the second half of the first round. In this event, KC takes their BPA and look to open up the offense.
22. Indianapolis Colts - Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
They'll look to rebuild their lines and to some, Solder is the best OT prospect in the draft. He should go higher but he falls right into Peyton Manning's lap.
23. Philadelphia Eagles - Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State
With OTs coming off the board, they pass on defense and take the best remaining blocker to keep Vick upright.
24. New Orleans Saints - Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
The Saints need fresh bodies along the defensive front and Paea is great value at this point.
25. Seattle Seahawks - Jake Locker, QB, Washington
Most are predicting this and it makes some sense, pick Locker, he can sit behind Hasselebeck for a year. He has a good arm but he'll need to improve his accuracy.
26. Baltimore Ravens - Brandon Harris, CB, Miami (Fl)
And Harris goes to Baltimore. It's either receiver or corner and with Harris on the board, it's a no brainer. If he wasn't, this would be a receiver pick.
27. Atlanta Falcons - Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
The four year starter will end up in Atlanta and take over the right tackle spot.
28. New England Patriots - Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple
I really like this pick as Wilkerson first the 3-4 end role to perfection with a big build who can get in the backfield.
29. Chicago Bears - Mike Pouncey, G, Florida
With all the tackles gone at this point, they will go interior or defensive tackle. Pouncey should be able to start from day one and add some stability.
30. New York Jets - Rahim Moore, S, UCLA
Perhaps a surprising pick in that they hold out on taking a pass rusher or beef up front in general. Moore is the top safety in the class and they've needed an improvement for some time.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Aaron Williams, CB, Texas
With no value along the OL here, they decide to take the best corner available.
32. Green Bay Packers - Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
He falls and does so right into perhaps the perfect situation in Green Bay.
<hr>
33. New England Patriots - Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia
More youth up front, they should drastically improve their ability to not just stop the run but get to the passer.
34. Buffalo Bills - Martez Wilson, ILB, Illinois
A leader on defense, he can play inside or outside and inject some ability into the Buffalo linebacking group.
35. Cincinnati Bengals - Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State
Beginning to address their defense, Heyward may not be an athletic freak but he's a good football player who should be able to start.
36. Denver Broncos - Kyle Rudolph, TE, Notre Dame
Not so much of a leap as Denver needs to address the offensive weapons and Rudolph is the best tight end on the board.
37. Cleveland Browns - Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland
A weapon for Colt McCoy is a good thing.
38. Arizona Cardinals - Benjamin Ijalana, G, Villanova
He jumps up the board to settle the inside of the Cardinals line.
39. Tennessee Titans - Stefen Wisniewski, C, Penn State
With none of the top three QBs available here, they boost their blocking.
40. Dallas Cowboys - Marcus Cannon, RT/G, TCU
This may be too high for the mammoth of a man, but he is a powerful force up front and if he can play guard, great value.
41. Washington Redskins - Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsbugh
The Skins refuse to take a subpar QB in their eyes and take the best receiver available.
42. Houston Texans - Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor
A prototypical 34 nose tackle is what Houston needs and they shall receive.
43. Minnesota Vikings - Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas
SURPRISE! I know his stock is dropping but I still say he'll be the 4th QB off the board.
44. Detroit Lions - Mason Foster, OLB, Washington
Adding more talent to the defense as they don't see an OL with good value here.
45. San Francisco 49ers - Mikel LeShoure, RB, Illinois
Perhaps they'd be better suited to take a defensive player but the value here is too good to pass up.
46. Denver Broncos - Davon House, CB, New Mexico State
Time to address their secondary.
47. St. Louis Rams - Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami (Fl)
Weapons for Bradford and it was a tough choice over Titus Young, who falls.
48. Oakland Raiders - Rodney Hudson, C/G, Florida State
Beef, it's what's for dinner.
49. Jacksonville Jaguars - Mark Herzlich, OLB, Boston College
Assuming he checks out medically, he may even go higher.
50. San Diego Chargers - Titus Young, WR, Boise State
Adding a speedy receiver who hopefully can stay healthy is a good luck for the Bolts.
51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Danny Watkins, G, Baylor
Can't go wrong adding a quality blocker.
52. New York Giants - Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State
They need to address the need for a line backer.
53. Indianapolis Colts - Drake Nevis, DT, LSU
Beef up front is the issue and Nevis is the answer.
54. Philadelphia Eagles - Christian Ballard, DE, Iowa
Versatile 3-4 pass rusher brings more talent for the Eagles defense.
55. Kansas City Chiefs - Kenrick Ellis, DT, Hampton
They'll be looking for a defensive tackle and Ellis picked up some steam in the all-star games.
56. New Orleans Saints - Ryan Williams, RB, Virginia Tech
Question marks are bound for their running backs and Williams could push for a starting job.
57. Seattle Seahawks - Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pittsburgh
Good value here and the Seahawks drastically need help along both lines
58. Baltimore Ravens - Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana
They'll look for a young receiver to put outside and Doss is a big target (6'1+).
59. Atlanta Falcons - D.J. Williams, TE, Arkansas
Perhaps they should use the pick on defense but they'll fall in love with Williams.
60. New England Patriots - Brandon Burton, CB, Utah
The Pats bring in a fresh player for their secondary and have addressed each level of defense by now
61. San Diego Chargers - Quinton Carter, FS, Oklahoma
They've been looking for improved safety play for awhile and Carter is one of the top safeties available at this stretch
62. Chicago Bears - Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina
Although suspended for his senior year, he has the skills on the field to make an impact for the Bears who may be desperate for a tackle come draft day
63. Pittsburgh Steelers - John Moffitt, G, Wisconsin
Unable to find a lineman in the first round, they get a solid guard who may not be as powerful as some hope, but he can do all the little things
64. Green Bay Packers - Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy
Although small in stature, he projects to be a blazing slot guy who runs crisp routes, plus he is a good return man (questions about Driver/Jones, they could use more talent)
