I've been having some health issues and have been on bed rest for the last week or so. Today I was totally out of it, doped up on drugs, and my remote batteries died, so the TV was stuck on STARZ inBlack or some shit and i've been watching shitty movies like the Whoopi Goldberg vehicle 'Eddie' where she takes over as Knicks head coach.
So my GF finally gets home from work, and changes out the batteries. I do what most men do and compulsively turn on ESPN, just as a fresh SportsCenter is starting up. Great, I can catch up on the day, and hopefully fall back into my coma and either die or finally get better.
Much to my surprise (although I shouldnt be surprised at all) the lead story was Plaxico Burress catching a TD pass in a preseason game.
THE LEAD STORY WAS PLAXICO BURRESS CATCHING A TD PASS IN A PRESEASON GAME
Huh? That is what the worldwide leader is leading off with? Whatever. So I wait it out...and this is followed up by TWO MORE SEGMENTS OF NFL PRESEASON HIGHLIGHTS before they even touch another sport. And this was on a day where baseball had multiple walkoff wins ad a bunch of great games involving playoff contenders (including an epic Tigers/Indians game with one of the best finishes of the season). Of course, this is all buried in back segments, because we are force fed NFL PRESEASON HIGHLIGHTS.
Not only do they lead with a Plaxico TD catch, as if this is news to begin with, they also 'go back to the Meadowlands' and kick it to snaggle tooth ginger cunt Racheal Nichols not once, but TWICE during the show, to further break down this transcendent moment in sports history.
Nobody gives a fuck about preseason NFL football. Most fans check for two things. One, did anyone get hurt, and two, how did the starters look? Otherwise, not a fuck is given. By Week 3, hardcore fans can't even recall preseason records.
Thing is, ESPN used to bury this shit on the back end of SportsCenter...until NFL Network came around. Ever since, an NFL centric network has now become so NFL crazed that its as if nothing else even exists. For the niche fans who want goofy preseason breakdowns, don't they have NFL Live? Isn't SC supposed to be a quick catch all of the days events in SPORTS?
BUT WAIT! There's more....
They actually did a video montage of "ALL OF THE PRESEASON ACTION FROM THIS SEASON SO FAR, IN CASE YOU MISSED ANYTHING!" half way through the show. I mean, words can't describe the insanity involved in this. Do people think about these preseason games two minutes after they end? Am I the crazy one doped up on drugs, slowly dying, painfully out of touch on this?
