I know there are a couple of sections for specific fantasy football leagues on here but I couldn't find a general thread for fantasy football talk so I decided to start one.

I know on MM we had a thread like this and guys would always come to get opinions on who to start/sit, trade opinions, or just talk about how their guys are doing, etc.

I have two drafts coming up on the last weekend of August. Both are 10 team leagues in standard yahoo format.

Who are some of your guys sleeper picks this year?

Who would you pick first out of Reggie Bush/Pierre Thomas this season?

Which rookie backs do you think are going to be the most productive?

Who are your overrated/underrated guys going into the season?

I am going to have some trouble with depth picks this year in the later rounds.

DeSean Jackson or Braylon Edwards? Or would you even pick Percy Harvin over both of them? Especially with Favre back...

Keep in mind that I'm obviously listing sleeper/surprise guys that I think are going to have good seasons and can be picked up in the later rounds, no point in naming guys like Maurice Jones Drew or Andre Johnson that are obviously great picks.

Well fuck. Minutes after I post this I read that Chaz Shilens broke his foot in practice today.

god damnit, every report I had read talked about how Shilens was by far the Raiders best WR in camp so far and looking damn good.

Looks good Tailback, I disagree with some of the players you mentioned but I'll save that for when I do my own little write-up.

First of all, I want to make sure everyone knows, I am basing these opinions on where I've seen most of these players being drafted and if I believe they are being taken to high or to low.

I'll do stock down first and then I'll post later with my stock up and sleepers.

DeAngelo Williams - Yes I know this is controversial but I've seen DeAngelo being picked in the top 5 in every single draft I've had. I don't know how you can draft a running back THAT high when he is splitting that many carries... and he should be splitting more next season. I'll pass on Williams if there is a healthy Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, or Brandon Jacobs.
Average pick: 6th, middle 1st round.
Should be: 10-12, late 1st

Maurice Jones-Drew - Uh huh, I know he has the potential to go off. I know he is a very talented running back and he had a couple stellar seasons. But you have to realize, Jones-Drew has never had a 1,000 yard season. You can bring up him splitting with Taylor and the injuries to the offensive line but I can't put MJD ahead of proven names who have put together MVP type seasons when he hasn't even racked 1,000 yet.
Average pick: Top 3 pick
Should be: 5-7, early 1st

Marion Barber - Coming back from an injury and currently in a 2 running back system... possibly a 3 running back system. He may get the majority of the carries at the goaline but I don't like picking him unless he slides deep into the 3rd round.
Average pick: 23rd, late 2nd
Should be: 30-36, late 3rd

Brian Westbrook - Anyone who has had Westbrook on your team... knows how risky of a pick he is each year. He is questionable almost every week, you never want your first round pick to be game time decisions, its a fantasy football nightmare. Aside from his injury woes, I feel as if his production will slide a bit with all the new offensive weapons they have added through the draft and free agency.
Average pick: 7th, middle first round
Should be: 13-16, early 2nd

Good stuff. I agree with you about Westbrook and DeAngelo Williams. I expect Williams' production to drop a lot this season, there is absolutely no way he can come close to duplicating last season's performance, in my mind.

I don't agree with you on Mo-Jo. I think he is definitely worthy of a top 3 pick this year with the way the Jags offense is built and his durability and the fact that he is the guy now. No way he doesn't top 1000 yards and at least 15 TDs this season, in my mind.

What do you think about Steve Slaton and Chris Johnson? I have my doubts about both. If I have the 7th-10th pick in my draft I might even go WR over both of these dudes and take Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson.

Steve Slaton is a solid pick in my opinion. Last year he proved he can run the ball for 16 games, stay healthy, and don't forget he can catch the ball out of the backfield. If you are asking whether he can get double digit TD's, I'm not sure but I like his chances more than Chris Johnson. But he will get 250+ carries in a high octane offense... and should have at least 1,200+ on the ground with 300+yards receiving. Don't expect him to get much competition from Ryan Moats, Slaton will get more than enough chances to punch it in. I think he is a safe pick late in the first, and an absolute steal in the second.

Even though I love Chris Johnson and his skillset, when I'm going for my first round back.... I want to be safe and have the least amount of worries. I think you know where I'm going with this one... Lendale White. As long as that goaline hog is on the team you will see CJ charge up the field, put up 50 yards on a drive only to be reward with watching Lendale dive into the endzone. CJ carried the ball 294 times last year, Lendale carried it 205 times, that's still a healthy split... I'd stay away from CJ in the first just based on he has little to no chance to get into the endzone unless he breaks one(which he is obviously capable of doing but once again I don't like to take risks on my first pick). I'd pick him if it was mid 2nd but I won't go out of my way and try to secure him in the first.

By the way, you are spot on with the QB worries, Peyton isn't a top 5 fantasy quarterback next year, Eli has way less to work with on offense, and Jay Cutler is already throwing his #1 wide-out under the bus.

I was just offered Brandon Marshall and Antonio Bryant for Marques Colston. I am most likely not going to accept this trade because Marshall's whole season is still in doubt and Bryant is not going to have the same numbers as last season with Leftwich throwing him the ball.

I just recently traded Eddie Royal and Pierre Thomas for Clinton Portis and Bernard Berrian. I'm still not completely sold on Pierre Thomas and Denver's QB situation scares me. Plus I like Pierre Thomas but I still like Clinton Portis better.

I had the 6th pick so I went with DeAngelo Williams and Jacobs in the 2nd round, took Roddy White in the 3rd and Colston in the 4th.

I don't know what to think about Pierre Thomas just yet. The guy has skill and did really well toward the end of the season last year but the addition of Mike Bell might hurt his stock this season. But Reggie Bush is bound to miss a few games so Pierre should be fine.

I also need a backup QB but I don't know who I want to drop. I really want to keep McCoy and Coffee just in case Westbrook and Gore go down or miss a few games because I think they have major upside. But if Schaub goes down I'll have to pick somebody up off the wire unless I get Hasselbeck right now.

Westbrook has been one of the best fantasy players regardless of position. The guy gets a ton of yards from scrimmage and usually scores a bit.

The Eagles haven't added any proven talent. They've added potential.

Word Westbrook finds a way to consistently give first round numbers year in and year out... so him dropping to the 2nd round is foolishness.

Good idea, fantasy football is taking off and I think we should have a subforum for it. Until something like that happens, I'm going to continue to use this.

Its a risky trade for the other owner, I see you getting the safe side of this but I see him getting more potential. With problems to Brandon Marshall, I fully expect Eddie Royal to be the go to target and rack up quite a few catches. And if you have seen the Patriots offensive system, he like to run screens and all sorts of short passes to get his players in open space, so I wouldn't be to bothered about Orton. If I were you, I would have kept on to the players but I understand why you went along and did the trade.

I don't like the DeAngelo pick but the rest of your team is stacked. You have questions at QB but most people do if they didn't grab an elite one. I love the depth at WR, its always nice to be able to bounce around a few players just based on match-ups without feeling like you are throwing away your week.

Garrard ranked 7th last year in overall fantasy points at the QB position. He had a shittier offensive line, a shittier running game, and a terrible receiving corps. All which had been upgraded(to an extent) in the off-season. He had 3,600yards last year, the same amount Cassel did. He had 17 overall touchdowns, which isn't great but isn't terrible either. And he has those legs which every fantasy owner loves to see, he ran for over 300 yards and 2 touchdowns.

I'm a little worried about Reggie Bush but to make sure I have options, I thought I picked up some high potential players along with a veteran in Edgerrin who may or may not see good play time. Not sure if I should try and swing a trade for a safer running back or just keep all my young studs. I've told myself I wasn't going to get Jay Cutler but by the time I went to get a QB, I was already left with limited options. Anyways, here is my team.

You got a pretty good team for a 12 team league, IMO.

Reggie Bush, as you know, could make or break your team although I do think Moreno/Wells/James will eventually take over the starting job on their teams. Mason and Nicks on the bench are solid 3rd/4th WR options as your starters are stacked for a 12 team league.

Gore could go off this year. He looks like he is in the best shape of his life right now.

Right now I'm picking up Hasselbeck off the wire, Garrard is available but I think I'd rather have Hass. If he and his WR corps stay healthy I think he could have a really good season.

Should I drop Jemichael Finley, Nate Burleson, or Ernest graham and pick up James Davis? I have Derrick Ward so I kinda want to keep Graham just in case. I have Hasselbeck as my backup and like have the QB to WR duo with Burleson, and Im really high on Finley hopinh hes real good so i can trade him.
