[ALL] Favorite racing games growing up?

So I was talking with a friend last night about our favorite racing games growing up. I have quite a few that I loved and put so many hours into as a child (which I'll post in a few minutes). Now I'm wondering how my list stacks up against everyone elses. I'd love to see what you guys played growing up.

So yeah, tell about your favorite racing games you played as a kid. Can be any kind of racing game really, arcade, sim, kart, whatever. Maybe show off the cover art and some gameplay clips off YouTube if you'd like.

Ill start with an oldie...

I used to play the shit out this game

I remember the music like it was yesterday. Gawd damned skull and crossbones car!!!

My very first video game - Indianapolis 500: The Simulation from 1989. This was the very first sim-racer and was developed by Papyrus (who shows up on my list of favorites a few times). They are now the developer of iRacing.

I put countless hours into this one and it's when I first fell in love with sim-racing. This game was tough as shit and I remember only winning maybe a handful of times. The first time I won I had to go around the track backwards and crash the entire field and then turn back around and finish the race alone haha. What's funny is that crashed cars aren't removed from the track. So making your way through a crashed field can be rather interesting. This game also had car setups (amazing for 1989) and also had damage and pitstops. Pretty awesome. I still remember going down to the basement office, booting up the family Packard-Bell with Windows 3.1 and hooking up my joystick. So many memories.

It was a monster truck game for nes, it was also out in the arcade. Almost looked like RC cars, but the track had power ups like gas, tires, ect.

Road Rash back on the SEGA Saturn.

I've always been a fan of upgrading shit as I progressed through a game, and RR was my earliest memory of that.

One of the best pieces of video game music ever :yep: The whole soundtrack is pretty damn awesome actually.

Now on to the two games I spent the most time with as a kid...

IndyCar Racing and NASCAR Racing, both developed by Papyrus and released in '93 and '94 for the PC. Both were sim-racers and had a good amount of customization. I even remember there being a paint booth, but I was never able to figure that out. I received both of these game for Christmas in '94 and installed them to the computer that very night. I still remember how awesome the damage modeling was in NASCAR Racing, hell, we still don't have crinkled up hoods that obstructs your view in Forza :shifty:. Being able to control your car under the formation lap and full course yellows was pretty fun, and I admit, I would sometimes rear-end a couple cars on purpose while under full course yellow just for fun lol. But yeah, played these two games for years and they are at or near the top of my all-time favorites.

I'm boring, as I didn't play a lot of older racing stuff. RC Pro-Am here and there, and some Rock N' Roll Racing too. I played a SHITLOAD of Mario Kart for SNES. After that though, it's really just the Burnout games. Until Forza: Horizon, I didn't think I'd play another racing game again, post Paradise.
