Though plenty of folks continue to accept at face value the same “I ain’t comin’ back” message that a certain quarterback was communicating as late as early July of 2008, the signs point to the Second Annual Brett Favre Retirement becoming the Second Annual Brett Favre Unretirement.

Why? Favre reportedly still wants revenge on the Green Bay Packers.

“Favre can’t stand Green Bay,” an unnamed league source told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. “He wants to play Green Bay and say, ‘I told you so.’ His bitterness is creating this. I think he’s calling Minnesota. I think Minnesota is talking about this as we speak. You haven’t heard the end of Favre. No way. He is bionic. As long as somebody will let him in, he will play.”

I won't believe Favre is done till it is week 1 of a new season and he isn't on a roster. Personally, I still think Favre could play for a team like Minnesota who plays half of their games indoors. I think you take the weather out and you give him some weapons on a fast track and he can still do some damage.

LOL at people getting mad at Favre for still wanting to play. Blame the people shoving the microphone in his face if you don't like the coverage. He might be a dillweed, but he can't make himself into news...only the news media can.

I can (somewhat) see why Favre is bitter. He was basically forced out of his job for a replacement. Was it partially his fault, of course it was, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to be bitter.

I still think he's some backwoods redneck who wouldn't know what to do without all the attention. But, that doesn't mean he shouldn't play if he still wants too.

The team was willing to have him back as the QB if he wanted the job, but he retired. And then a few weeks later he called and said he wanted to come back. They even got a plane ready to fly down to Mississippi, and then he called back and said he couldn't commit.

And then they go and draft two backup QBs since there was only one on the roster. And then right as Training Camp is about to start, he wants to come back and be given his roster spot back like nothing happened, and won't even agree to compete for the job.

I don't really subscribe to the fact that he was forced out. Maybe he wouldn't have retired in the first place if Ted Thompson signed Randy Moss and kept all of the over-the-hill, overpaid O-linemen that Favre wanted on the team, and hired Mooch as the coach like Favre wanted, but oh yeah, Favre isn't the GM and Thompson was a strong enough GM not to let Favre run the team.

As an outsider I think its fairly obvious there was a power struggle. Thompson vs Favre.

I know that Favre was non-commital and Thompson pretty much put a deadline on him. He made a decision by the deadline, decided it was the wrong one and tried to change his mind. Thompson was already proceeding as if Favre wasn't coming back.

I'm not saying Thompsonw as wrong (in fact, I think he did the right thing) but they had already invested in Rodgers and then got Brohm. They had started a rebuilding project (obvious by the non-moss aquisition and getting rid of lineman). Favre didn't factor into those plans. First chance they had to get rid of them, they did. Thats sports.

In my opinion, I think the Packers made out the best in this situation. They were able to finally move on to Aaron Rodgers and see what he has as a quarterback.

Let him go to Minnesota, I'd love to see that matchup in Green Bay.

It'd be fun as hell to watch, between the rivalry and the players the Vikings have. AP, Farve, and Harvin. It'd be interesting as hell to watch. Though if you've got Vick, AP, Harvin, that'd be sick to watch most likely.

I agree he wasnt forced out. Brett Favre is top 3 quarterbacks of all time there is no way in hell he competes for a job. I mean if he comes back a week before the season starts i would have given him the job back. It's not like he needs to learn the system or anything. And they were trying to protect aaron rodgers? I mean cmon. I would love to see him come back and play. With Cutler, Stafford, and Favre that would make the NFC North that much more exciting

Oh those crazy VIking fans. Don't know if I would really want him in the DOME. Brett was at his worst in DOMES. But you guys go ahead and wish for Brett to play over half the season in DOMES.

Watching Brett for 16 seasons, I remember how crappy he was in DOMES. He had a lot of great games everywhere else, you know, places that weren't DOMES. Brett even sucked it up in the Wannabe DOME in Dallas.

the vikes won 10 games with gus and tarvaris at QB last year, you don't think that couldn't match that record or even improve it by a couple wins with a QB who at the twilight of his career is still better than both of those guys?
