In a radio interview with Atlanta's 790 The Zone, Favre made remarks that could be interpreted as a subtle attempt to minimize Rodgers' achievements.

Favre said he wasn't surprised Rodgers won a Super Bowl, saying "the biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner" and that Rodgers "just kind of fell into a good situation."

Still, Favre acknowledged that Rodgers can play.

"He's got tremendous talent, he's very bright and he got a chance to kind of sit and watch and he saw successful teams do it right," Favre said in the interview. "And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. And on top of that, he's a good player. I don't think anyone would question now the talent around him is even better than when I was there. So I really was surprised it took him so long. Really, the early part of last season, it hadn't quite clicked yet and I didn't know if it would. I just figured at some point, when they hit their stride, they're going to be hard to beat. And that's what happened."

When the Packers were 8-6 going into week 15 coming off of back to back losses to the Lions and the Patriots, NOBODY thought they were the favorites going into the playoffs. But when they hit their stride, they hit their stride and have been hard to stop ever since.

Let's not forget that Rodgers inherited a team that went to the NFC championship game and went 6-10 the first year and got taken to the woodshed by Favre and the Vikings twice the following year. There's no denying Rodgers talent but he did have the benefit of not getting thrown to the wolves like most young QB's these days and he is surrounded by more talent than Favre ever had on offense.

You are smoking something strong if you think Favre's MVP era weapons could hold the jocks of the Packers current offensive talent. The only real weapon he ever had was Sterling Sharpe who was with him for barely 2 seasons, if that. People like Antonio Freeman and Robert Brooks couldn't even make the Packers roster today. James Jones and Jordy Nelson are better than either of them.

You make it sound like he's set up a soapbox in the middle of a mall, told everyone to "gather round brothers and sisters" and started ranting on about Rodgers and the Packers.

He's being interviewed a radio show and no doubt got asked a specific question, it's probably 2 lines / 15 seconds out of an hour interview or whatever.

Favre didn't make his comments right after those loses. He made them well after GB won the SB with A. Rodgers looking like the Best in the League. Brett made his comments after A. Rodgers continued to play at that elite level this year.

What does Rodgers sitting on the bench have to do with Favre's comments? And Brett had a lot of talent on offense too. Brett had the all time team leader in rushing during his prime, he had the all time team leader in receiving catches and yards during his prime. Farve had an elite O-Line for years. Favre is very guarded and defensive about his legend. That showed up in his comments. Favre needs some lessons from Bart Starr in generosity when speaking about current members on the team.

The comments were blown out of proportion. But Brett, being guarded and defensive about his own legacy, wants to be guarded, and wants to insert his own bias about his career into any compliments.

Brett - All time great regular season.
Brett - Average at best in playoffs

Starr - Above average regular season.
Starr - Phenomenal during the playoff.

Starr > Brett as an NFL QB and after retirement.

Rodgers has potential to be greater than Favre.

Brett had very good weapons to use during his career. You mention Sharpe but leave off A. Green and D. Driver. Christ, if you're going to make a point, be objective about it.

The fact that this story has been "news" for the past week has been pissing me off. I really don't see anything wrong with what Favre said because I specifically remember back in 07 when he said that Packers team was the most talented he's ever been on. Favre knew how good Rodgers was going to be, so he was just surprised that it took him a few seasons to get this team to where they are now.

A lot of people have been saying how Favre is tarnishing his legacy, needs to shut his mouth, etc. You know damn well ESPN and other media outlets are calling his house multiple times a day just trying to get a headline out of him. He finally decides to speak his mind and he instantly gets criticized for it.

I think Starr was further removed from his playing days, whereas Favre just retired and still carries a grudge toward the Packers organization (justly or unjustly).
