Favre has no relationship with Packers

Brett Favre isn’t interested in having his No. 4 retired by the Green Bay Packers anytime soon and says he pretty much has no relationship with the club at this point.

But in an interview with Deion Sanders of the NFL Network, the future Hall of Famer acknowledges that one day he will return to Green Bay.

“It will happen someday,” Favre said of having a relationship with the club at some point. “That day will come. I haven’t lost any sleep over it, nor have they. They’ve gone on.”

Right now, he said “not really” when asked if he has any relationship with the organization, according to ESPN Milkwaukee, which has a transcript of the interview. Packers president Mark Murphy has said the team would like to invite Favre back for a jersey retirement ceremony at some point but only when it is meaningful to everyone involved.

“Why?” Favre said laughing. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know this: whether anything happened between you and Atlanta, me and Green Bay – and people think I’m crazy – but I don’t need to have a day. I don’t need to have a retirement (where they) retire your jersey to solidify my career.”

How does he look back on his playing days?

“I feel like playing 20 years of pro football and numerous other years, there are no regrets because when I look back, people ask me if I missed it,” he said. “I thought I would. I really don’t miss it; I kind of miss some of the goofing off … I left it out there. There is no (feeling of), ‘If I would have just done this.’ I did it all.”

Maybe one day he will do the jersey retirement thing too. Who knows?

That is arguable. The Packers actually took several steps back for the first two years after Favre left and squeaked into the playoffs the year they pulled an Eli and won the Super Bowl.

Favre also said that he knew the potential was there during his last season in GB for them to become the team they are today.

I agree with Bill in that he will come back to Lambeau once Ted Thompson leaves, which hopefully isn't any time soon.

Honestly, I was thinking Brett's EGO, but something tells me there is always another side of the story we don't know. That being said, I am sure someone in the Packers organization has a hard-on for the Farve situation and they refuse to budge.

On topic: We'll have his number hanging up in Lambeau soon enough. No need to rush it. Both parties are stubborn and there's no reason to upset the current system when it is working. And yes Senser, there is still a Brett Favre's Steakhouse a couple blocks away. It's as packed as ever also.
