Fedor Emelianenko is the most exciting HW since Mike Tyson

Name another HW since Mike Tyson in combat sports that brings the excitement, dominance and finishing ability like Fedor, the HW division has always been the go to division in boxing and MMA, Fedor over the last 8 years has taken it to that Mike Tyson type level but still keeps his head on straight and wont bite someone's ear off, appreciate what you are seeing, finally the US fan (non-hardcore) has seen what this guy can do

It's not like Fedor has recently fought a bevy of elite heavyweights. I'll give you Arlovski. I'll argue against Sylvia. Besides them, you can go back to Cro Cop in 2005 before Fedor fought a legit top heavyweight.

I'm not saying Tyson was beating great or even good heavyweights, I'm saying Tyson went out there and absolutely destroyed those he was put against. It wasn't like he just beat someone or it went to decision a lot of the time, he looked almost untouchable for his first 37 fights.

Fedor is great, dominating, and arguably the best MMA fighter of all time, Tyson was a phenomenon that was bigger than the sport itself.

are better wins than Tyson ever had, Tyson best oppanants were Lennox and Evander and lost to both of them, Larry Holmes was over the hill, Razor Ruddock was pretty good, who else? Trevor Berbick? Spinks was already done and a small HW

also, the best age of MMA in this decade was probably when the Pride HWs were around, Fedor, Nog, Cro Cop, Barnett, etc...

The thread was mostly about being 'exciting', I threw in dominance because I didnt want people to name guys who are exciting but lose alot, Fedor has been the total package, tough to be exciting and dominant, its a rare quality and for HW it seems to be even more rare

Well that doesn't say much for Tyson. Big Nog was a clear #2 heavyweight throughout the decade. During Tyson's run, the heavyweight division pretty much was dead despite Holyfield and Lewis. (I'm talking 90s)

I remember reading how PRIDE considered Cro Cop their best heavyweight until Fedor beat him.

I think Tyson was way more exciting, but that's subjective and everyone already knows I'm a big fan of striking/boxing. As far as dominance goes at least Tyson fought the best the sport has to offer, Fedor just hasn't done that and we're not sure if he will. Either way MMAs HW division has always been kinda weak as well, even in the Pride days the HWs were never better than the MWs/LHW division. Boxings wasn't great either, but again Tyson fought who they had to offer and it's impossible to compare people in two different sports, is Lebron better than John Elway?

As far as comparing I mean it's hard to say that Nog is better than any HW that Tyson has beat. Regardless I want to see Fedor clean out his division first, Tyson mopped the floor with just about every HW that there was when he was in his prime. Sure Fedor should beat all those guys I mentioned, but he still has to get in there and do it before I say he's more dominant than Tyson was.

Sure if you take Tyson out then Fedor is easily the top guy, no question. Maybe you could argue Holyfield, but not retiring when he should have tarnished his legacy a bit. Lennox Lewis would def be in the discussion too, but I'd still say Fedor. Including excitement kinda leaves the door open to argue for other guys tho.

Still the thing is when you're talking about someones dominance, the first part to being a dominating fighter is cleaning out your division and doing it in style. I used Silva and GSP as examples earlier because those guys have done that whereas it's debatable whether or not Fedor has. With that it's hard to say that he beats out Tyson because at one point Tyson was running through everyone in his division in a much more dominating fashion than Fedor and I personally think Tyson was more exciting to watch.

Before the Gonzaga fight, I'd say Cro Cop.

Fedor is something special but not being able to fight the UFC crew will hurt some of the excitement factor. Outside of the UFC, what big fights are left for him that are appealing? Fedor/Barnett is one (ugh), Fedor/Overeem may be one and that's it.

He's the best heavyweight but what's left to see?

Im only 23 so I was too young back then, I didn't start to see Tyson fights until the mid 90s. Being the fight nerd that I am tho I have his entire career along with a bunch of other fighters on my computer so I know my history pretty well.

For me it's Tyson, Fedor, Nog in that order. No one crushed guys the way Tyson did.
